I have on on my Cub....it's the right prop for an A65 for sure. Great performance.

If you're running a foam Brackett air filter replace with a Challenger (K&N element) or Donaldson for more power.

There was about 25 static rpm (measured with an optical PROPTACH) and 1/2" MP to be gained. I ran the test with a similar length Sen 74/40 on a C-90 with the Challenger (or no filter) over a Brackett with a new element.

            Hi Tim.

Donaldson P10-7150. This is what I bought for the Taylorcraft's C-85+power plant: http://www.donaldson.com/en/aircraft...ary/048554.pdf

Challenger/K&N element CP-1150. It's what I had after the Brackett proved to be more restrictive than the Challenger unit. It's what I tested with the outboard tach and onboard MP gauge. BTW, 25 rpm static was the minimum noted...it varied between 25 and 40 on a standard atmosphere day beached on floats: http://www.challengeraviation.com/ApplicationGuide.pdf

The Challenger is a longer life unit, but the filtration is less (according to Donaldson) and the element is smaller while the metal shroud is the normal size. The Donaldson has a suggested 3-year/500 hr. life, but we'll see. I've used them on Cessnas and Citabrias and they do well, especially on floats or in mixed precip where the K&N oils gauze tends to accrete water/ice/snow. YRMV.

MP gauge...why? Instant indication of carb ice (sooner than the tach in level flight and constant power), and gives an idea of engine health at WFO (a s close to atmospheric pressure as possible), and at idle (lower is better when the rings, valves, and intake plumbing are sealing properly).

Edit: One thing to consider with a relatively restrictive air filter...intake air will find the path of least resistance. If unfiltered air can get around the carb heat flap, it will. A restrictive air filter just makes that path easier.
