I had one years ago in my L-2 and really liked it. Great range and no problems. I used a rechargeable gel-cell to run it. I never ran the battery out, even on a very long cross-country flight.
    Cheers,
    Marty

      Dick.
Great little radio with good reception [ loud & clear !!!] and long range. External antenna mounted on the wing to fuselage metal strip...all the way to the back before it turns down under the wing. Sealed Gel battery will last me 12 hours easily. Thinking of getting the transponder next. Don't think it is TSO/PMA radio [ remove before annual !!!] . Carry a Icom handheld as back up ...just in case. And it has a built in intercom [which I have not used in a while...mostly solo flights]. No problems talking with tower and others.

Go for it...some $ 800 + - and worth it. Be sure you have a good headset ANR with fresh batteries.

We've had the Microair 760 in ours since 2007. Never had an issue with ATC even as far at 10 miles out. We installed ours in a wooden box that sits on the floor between pilot/copilot powered by a 12v gel cell battery.

Thanks Tribe for the response re: the Microair 760 vhf transceiver...I've been up in Nampa, ID and Salem, OR for 2 weeks relocating my 93+ year old mother. Will be in Apache Junction for a few days and than back to Alaska. Will try to get my Microair rigged up. Next year, I will try to take a look at N74DV's setup. Thanks again. Dick

Dick, I have had one since 2002, its been a fair radio but I have some problems with a chip coming loose on the main board causing display issues. It also intermittently quits transmitting and loses side tone, sent it back to Australia and because its intermittent they did not find a problem. There is a 337 for my installation in the tech ref. section. when it is working I could be 40 miles away, south of the Alaska range at 12K and talking to Allen Army Air Field clear as day. I am using a SLAB battery from an emergency light and just carry a spare charged battery. Get a solar panel if you are worried about maintaining a charge. Tim

I've been considering use of a Microair 760 in an airplane I'm restoring which will have unshielded ignition. Can those of you who have had good experience with the radio please comment on whether you have shielded or unshielded ignition ?

                Thank you,

                Dick

I had both, you need shielded to hear anyone else clearly(receive). Tim
