  • Strut Fairings

Anyone have any photos, information, suggestions, links or whatever on closing/covering the "inspection hole" around where the struts attach to the underside of the wing. (BC12D)

I have pretty nice plates for the front strut attach points under the wing, but need to do something with the rear strut holes.

I am assuming that inspectors will always want to have a hole there to check the attach point so I don't want to fabric it in close.

What inspection hole? That could be covered by a strut cuff? Do you have a photo? IMHO, there is no such hole on a BC12D.

Inspection of the strut attachment fitting (inside the wing) can be carried out through one of the "normal" inspection apertures (usually where the diagonal wing wires meet the front or rear strut).

Every BC12D I have seen has the fabric sealed / attached where both the front & rear strut fittings enter the wing underside fabric.

Well, that would be a easy solution to my "problem."

This is what Robert is talking about these came with the struts that were bought from the factory in 1980 and were used in the f19.They are plastic not metal.

          Re: Strut Fairings

It well may be that my other Tcrafts were "fibered in" around the strut entrance at the under-wind attach point, I frankly don't remember. This one must have had a damaged plate of some kind on the front strut as I replaced it with one of my own design. I think that it is possible to get a better look at the strut attach area when there is an additional view from the bottom. My inspectors apparently think the same.

I have considered modeling and fabricating something similar to the factory one.

Thanks for the comments and particularly the photo. I may post one of the front strut "plate."

A couple of photos of my strut attach fittings.
I previously had a real problem with insects finding their way into my wings.
So I strove for a tight fit of the fabric to the fittings.

I have metal fairings that look like the plastic ones above on my 46 BC 12 D
