I was watching Flea Market Flip. These contestants found a pair of old T/C wheel pants for $125 at a flea market! They converted them into a coffee table. I found myself drooling and cringing at the same time. They had original red and ivory paint with the stainless dividing strip.

Re: Vintage wheel Pants on TV
Yea, I saw that. They turned a potentially $1000 set of pants they bought for cheap into a useless cheap coffee table. People just don't bother to check anything any more.
Hank
The only thing I would have even considered doing close to this was to make a stand under the coffee table top to STORE the pants. Now THAT could have been kind of cool, especially of the edge of the coffee table was also the storage rack for extra props. ;-)
Taste may vary.

Re: Vintage wheel Pants on TV
It is difficult to pay $1000 when the planes are relatively depressed in value. Some are higher, some are lower, but say 1/20th the value of your airplane you will not get back out is a lot of money.Cheers,

Re: Vintage wheel Pants on TV
Parts to keep the airplanes operating are important and needed.
Wheel pants are decoration, cool decoration but still just decoration. I would be the first to pay a chunk of change for nice, original wheel pants. However, I have my limits.Cheers,

Re: Vintage wheel Pants on TV
We do it because we have an irrational love for the mark. We KNOW we will never see our money again. We don't care. We love them. Why else put a $1000 compass in? Pay a kings ransom to overhaul the instruments? Pay more for a wreck and restoration than we could get by parting the wreck out? Hold the papers for a totaled plane in the hope of finding a fuselage someday so we can bring back a friends plane. Don't look for rational. When you WANT wheel pants, you will BUY wheel pants.

You are making me laugh at myself.
Its all true!
And it seems to apply to all of my hobbies (luckily I have only 3).

Re: Vintage wheel Pants on TV
You are missing the point. Did you pay $1000 for your wheel pants on each of those aircraft?
If you need parts to keep the airplane flying you will probably spend the money on needed parts, not unneeded bling.
I have flown off of countless grass strips and never needed to hose my plane off. Parts are more important than $1000 wheel pants to keep a little grass off.Last edited by M Towsley; 02-02-2015, 06:24.Cheers,
