  • PK screws in place of Martin wire

    Has anyone used the STC SAI-217 From Capital Air Service dated April 1959 for the replacement of PK screws to Martin wire on the wings for fabric retention. Is that an Stc that requires approval from the owner or is it available to all, has anyone any experience with it.

    Yes see this reg.;
    ยง21.120 Responsibility of supplemental type certificate holders to provide written permission for alterations.

    A supplemental type certificate holder who allows a person to use the supplemental type certificate to alter an aircraft, aircraft engine, or propeller must provide that person with written permission acceptable to the FAA.

    But also check this out;

      Thanks for the info. Checking on the FAA web site it says the STC holder is Capital Air Service , Im wondering if they are still around as it has been more than 50 years since the STC was issued.,

        I had thought that there was a part 91 requirement as well but I can't find it today.

          Why not use the 337 for riblacing or marson rivets...Those are current and I did them. Tim

            Not really interested in rib stitching seems like more work than PK screws and I have read I think on this forum where if not done correctly the rib can cut the stitch, rivets are an option , but I like the idea of easy removal for the future.

              PK screws really don't hold too well but to each their own. Oh and from my experience the stamped ribs will really tear easily with the screws and you need at least a #8 screw based on the hole size which adds lots of weight. Tim
