  • Ordering spar blanks

Howdy, I ordered spar blanks from spruce about two weeks ago and they still haven't shipped yet. Wondering if this is normal? Anyone have a similar experience? Thanks

    Re: Ordering spar blanks

I believe when I ordered mine they did have like a two or three week turn around.

I waited 6 months in 1993. Its a long turn around time. Call them and ask for the story.

        Re: Ordering spar blanks

This past spring I was going to buy spar blanks from Wicks aircraft in St Louis and drive down to pick them up as it is a one day drive but they told me it would be a month before they would have the stock in hand. I made a decision to check out Douglas fir at a near by specialty wood supply store, They had really nice straight grain clear Douglas Fir , in 18ft lenghts at about $60 apiece. called my AI said that would be Ok so now I have one beautifull Douglas Fir spar, its weight is very comparable to Spruce. And one spliced spar.

I got tired of all that and went to Big Sky Stearman and they took great care of me. I shipped them Delta Air Freight and it was much cheaper than ground at that time. I've also used "self certified" spars...nothing wrong with that.
