  • Performance information collection

Threads here cause me to wonder if it might be possible to put together a manual/book of a Taylorcraft technical data base of the performance (and other ?) information available from owners and where ever. I have done quite a bit of technical writing and might be interested if I could get some expert assistance on the best way to put it online for everyone to use.

An example I would give is of my airspeed indicator: With careful checking I have found that my airspeed indicator is quite accurate at stall speed but goes off in proportion to increasing airspeed until it is indicating 8 MPH high at top speed. Considering the pitot static reference tube is terminated inside the wing (stock location I think) and there are open holes near the trailing edge of the wing, that makes sense (reduced pressure in wing at higher speed).

Does everyone consider that the present procedure of searching the forum for information is adequate, or might a technically researched and "checked out" "book" collection of information be desirable?

    Re: Performance information collection

    Darryl,

A tech manual project has merit. Existing publications are meager compared to what we know amongst the tribe.

Constructing a book of Tribal Knowledge has been discussed. It seems there are some constraints which can be overcome, but constraints none-the-less.
First, there is a lot to write about so it will take a lot of chewing to "eat the elephant." Many go of are pretty good writers, so perhaps just someone taking up the task of editor would be a good approach.

Second, is liability. What we can't produce is Approved Data. If anyone uses a tribal technique and subsequently gets hurt it can mean a big headache. Disclaimers might be enough to protect the author, but you can't be sure.

Third, Taylorcraft is still exists even though inactive, so we would have to be careful not to publish copyrighted material. This last issue is not a big problem as long as we pay attention to ownership of information.
    Best Regards,
