  • DanoT....Looking for U.P. camping spot.

    Dan,

I sent you a PM asking for suggestions on a camping spot in the UP on Memorial weekend. Needs to be on or within walking distance of a strip. Any others please feel free to chime in.

    Thanx, MikeC

      Mike,

Not really sure what you are looking for, but I was browsing the UP in SkyVector and found Hanley Field, Munising, Mi.

Here is the SkyVector link: http://skyvector.com/airport/5Y7/Hanley-Field-Airport
      AOPA link: http://www.aopa.org/airports/5Y7

Did the Google thing and found the following:

ISHPEMING, MI – Carl D. Kurin, formerly of Ishpeming, died Saturday, November 9, 2024, in Bellingham, Wa. Carl received care at Highgate Senior Living Memory Care in Bellingham, Washington for two years prior to his death. Carl was born on November 27, 1941 and graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1959. He enlisted in the […]

This looks like it could be a great place for the UP/Wi T'craft owners/flyers Annual fly-in!

      Might even rival OSHKOSH....

I just left northern Wisconsin, the mosquitos were absolute horrendous, worst in 30 years. The extra snow they had in the region made enough of the little buggers to create clouds of them.....I am covered in bites! Tim

            Tim,
I carry a .410 for U.P. skeeters this time of year. Be sure of your target.....at times, it's tough to differentiate from hummingbirds! I ended up driving up with my daughter and we camped on the shores of Lake Superior. We had 80+ degrees both days and this to look at all day! Not a single mosquito Memorial weekend until Monday mid morning when we were packing up.

Best snowfall in 30 years in that part of the country, they needed the water desperately but along came the bugs this summer. I also was covered in ticks in just a short hike, hopefully no Lyme disease...Tim
