  • Taylorcraft community member lost, sad news

I had tried to post this notice a few days ago. I didn't see that it had shown up on the forum.

    Second try.

The Taylorcraft community has lost a member. Gary Anctil, known as L-2 Gary on this forum, has passed away. He had fallen and hit his head on a signpost, and because of the medication he was on his blood would not clot properly. The doctors were unable to operate on him because of the thinned out blood.

Gary had been a friend and mentor to myself and a few people on this forum. He had restored an L-2 many years ago and flew it regularly. This L-2 had also served as the test bed for the engine upgrade STC currently available for the L-2.

Gary had been a highly decorated combat pilot in Huey helicopters, as well as an Air America pilot. He had been a DC-6 aircraft commander, a government contractor, and a chief pilot for commercial helicopter operations. Most of us aare not physically strong enough to lift his resume, much less his logbooks

Gary was an A&P / IA mechanic, and was an expert rebuilder of the antique Bendix carburetors on most of our T-craft engines.

Gary's 90HP L-2 is available for sale by his wife. I would certainly like to see it stay "in the family" and go to someone on this forum. Feel free to contact me at 818-634-9762 and I will put you in touch with his family if you are interested in the L-2.

      Hello Bill,

I didn't know Gary in person, but I remember his posts fondly from the earlier days of this forum.

Thank you for your brief précis of his life. If you are able, please pass my thoughts to his wife.

I met Gary when he assisted in delivering a DC, 36354 to us. And again at the Whiteman auction, quite a person. We lost one of the great ones.
