• Windshield upper trim dimensions

I am about ready to install the windshield in my 41 BC. I can't fine the top trim strip. Could someone please post the dimensions, length, width, thickness and profile.
Thanks,

I just painted mine a couple of days ago. So it is off of the plane and close at hand. When I get home tonight, I'll measure it.

Do you have the post war "blown" windshield of the pre-war 4 piece?

Thanks Tim and Hank for the help, I would like to get this thing right. Hank I am installing the "blown" windshield, see pictures. Two more questions, do the screws on the top strip go through the windshield into the blind nuts or is the windshield cut off before the screw holes? Second, on the side strips, how do they attach? Do the screws go through the glass into the trim clips or screw the holders/alum strips into the wood door frame.

Thanks,
Norm G

Norm,
I measured my top trim last night. I forgot to take pictures.
It measures 36 9/16" long.
2.25" wide.
The thickness measured 0.032" thick. But includes a fairly heavy coat of paint.
The 6 holes are 7/32" diameter and are equally spaced at 6.5" (but your spacing is probably dictated by your blind nut spacing).
On mine, the mounting screws did not go through the windscreen plastic. The top edge of the windscreen stopped short of the screws/holes.

In the sketch below, the two angled legs are 0.3" long on mine and are angled at about 30°.
The tag leg measures 0.35" long.

I don't have wood door frames. So I don't know how yours should mount on the sides.

The link below has a picture of my trim piece from the underside and a good conversation about the mounting.

Tim,
Thank you so much for the measurements and drawings, its exactly what I was looking for. Its easy enough to make if you know the dimensions.
Maybe Hank can help me with the side mounts, I know he has a 41.

What are the details of the attachment to the boot cowl?

Re: Windshield upper trim dimensions

I have seen them drilled through the side pieces and also have seen them with cut outs (round bottomed slots) that went around the screws. Since I have a 4 piece I drilled the side pieces but used an oversize bit and put pieces of model airplane Si fuel tube around each screw to take up the slack and prevent the threads from touching the plastic. On the top piece every one I have seen apart either stopped short of the screws or had the cut out slots.

The original attachment to the boot was.....no attachment! Made me really nervous since the 4 piece doesn't have a metal strip screwed to the boot, just the rubber seal and NOTHING to hold it down. I talked to Forrest and added a long bolt at the bottom of the windshield to windscreen strip that goes through the boot to a fitting and holds the corners down. It was a BEAR to get installed!
