Re: New Tcraft listing on Barnstormers...?

Should be a '46. I owned N43109 long ago and this is N43481. Mine was an early '46 with truss ribs, small tail and fabric doors with swing-out windows.

Yea, my 45 is 43196, BUT, it was held by the factory till the summer of 46 and sold as a 46 and got a later N number. They used it at the factory to test modifications for production and it has the NEATEST Skylight that never made it to production. It also has a pre-war fuselage, tube doors with swing out windows and 3 hinge surfaces. Really an odd ball aircraft. Also has factory brakes on both sides, HAND FORMED stamped wing ribs, a unique engine mount that is a slightly different height than the production planes and a cowl that has compound curves in the bottom. Only two were built like that, pretty much from hand made parts and left overs from before the war. When she is all together she looks just like any other BC-12D, but 46 parts will NOT fit! At least she had the standard 46 instrument panel and Pretzel wheels.

Now you know why I know so many useless little details about the 45/46 planes. Several decades trying to figure out this bird.

Mine is 43754 and was built march 29 1946. Mine was built with the larger '46 aluminum doors with wood frame. The door style was changed around feb 1946 to the larger type. Original BC12D panel should be the upside down triangle. AS, RPM, ALt across top, OT,OP middle, mags on bottom. No other gauges.

The Deluxe had the extra two holes as an option and usually had a T&B in one and a ROC in the other. If you only wanted one they put an ash tray in the empty hole, but I understand the extra holes were only in the Deluxe and the plane in the photos is not one from what I can tell. The Deluxe also had aluminum wheel pants as an option.

Considering what I've gone through with my Annual, I wouldn't touch that plane for more than $5K.

              Hank,
Interesting, I have a BC12D-1 and some one installed an ashtray on either side of the panel, I thought it was out of a car.

She might be a good deal, if the FAA CD is the plane that you want and you are willing to bring her into conformance. The problems ARE NOT that hard to fix, but should impact the price. Overall she looks pretty good and is complete, if not original. To me the panel is the biggest problem and that could be put right in a week if you have the parts together. I would find a replacement panel for it and get all new/overhauled instruments (which I would reduce the asking price to pay for). The messed up door windows are insignificant.
