Interesting, is that enough to make any perceptible difference in airspeed? I would assume that if there is no rise in rpm's it's not even worth messing with the mixture.

You may not see an increase in RPM, and certainly no increase in airspeed. You might see a little more power when at altitude. What you will see is lower fuel burn per hour and a cleaner running engine.
