  • Anyone in the area?

Anyone in the Hartington NE area? There is a 41 T-craft deluxe for sale in that area that sounds promising to me. I just got off the phone with the owner who is an elderly man and is not computer savvy so sharing photos is not an option. It was totally restored in 96 and from his description it sounds nice. It is not in annual and will require new struts or old ones x-rayed. Annual expired last June. Is there anyone in that area that would be willing to take a quick look at her and brief over the logs?

    Thanks Chris

I think I know who that is. He had 2, one he had restored to almost perfection, a brown color, and another he had came up with somewhere which had an O200 in it and he was fighting some battles on getting the paper work straightened out on that one. The person I was thinking of is Vern Sudbeck. Attached is an older picture of the plane I was thinking of anyway.

Yes that is him!! He told me the story about the paperwork nightmare!! Wow what a mess! He sold it to a gentleman in GA. Are you familiar with the other T craft he has? Tried to get some more pictures from him but I don't think he has the ability. Its out of annual right now and needs the strut AD to be complied with. Trying to figure out how to get a good pre buy on it. Do you know anyone in the area?

The picture I posted would be of the plane you are referring to only about 10 years ago. He also had a PA20 and was in the Short Wing Piper Club. I only knew Vern through the club but would judge him to be honest. I will check with my boss who has ties to the Norfolk area and may be able to suggest an honest mechenic who would do a pre-buy.

Much appreciated. Just talking to him on the phone I could tell that he is a very nice guy.

Shame it isn't in Norfolk VA instead of Norfolk NE! I grew up in Omaha, but I don't think that will help much. ;-)

NOT REALLY! Norfolk Nebraska is NOTHING like Norfolk VA!

Something tells me Norfolk NE is more enjoyable

I have flown down to Vern's place and seen both of his airplanes... the Deluxe looked very nice, a mostly original restoration. He was building the "nightmare" airplane at the time, and his workmanship looked very good, he seemed like a very meticulous guy. I would say its a good one based on what I saw, but can't attest to anything concerning logs, etc. Sorry I cannot assist as I'm overseas now. I could PM you our IA's details if you want, he is at RRQ (Rock Rapids, IA), not terribly far away and knows Taylorcrafts.

SWEET! Those are the original knobs under the panel. REALLY HARD TO FIND! I only have ONE! Funny to see the Tach in the lower left hole. It is SO MUCH easier to hook up there. He even still has the venturi in the correct 41 location so the door doesn't hit it! I'm drooling.
