Just a general announcement that after chasing my tail on this for a couple of years, I have finally found that we can get Stainless steel tailbrace wires as well as nipples and whatever those little half-cylinders are called from aviation supply stores.
I got my SS wires from Wag-Aero because they were the only ones I could find that had the shorter 36.5" long wires that my airplane needs. 8-36 rolled threads. There was a little toe-tag on each wire that says:
Aero Fabricators, Inc
Lyons, WI 53148
FAA-PMA
Part No A-461
Serial No: N/A
Installation eligibility: BC-12D
I also got the half-cylinders in Stainless Steel from Wag Aero. when I asked about the threaded nipples, the CS rep said that she could see them in their system. But she couldn't order them, even for back-order.
But I was able to get the nipples in Stainless steel from Aircraft Spruce
They came in little Ziploc bags that said the same thing
Aero Fabricators, Inc
The only difference was:
Part No: A-986
Eligibility: Taylorcraft BC-12D Nipple Tail Surface
Aircraft Spruce told me that they only had 8 nipples in stock. And I ordered all 8. The ACS part number for the nipples is 05-05193. They have the #8-36 thread.
When I got the parts, I hit the threads with Never-Seez and threaded them together. Beautiful fit.
The straps I had made in Stainless at my local laser shop.
