      Re: Pre-Cover Inspection

The wings are now covered with the Stewart Systems process. I think the paint matched with the old strip on the fuselage fairly well.

After assembling the wings to the fuselage, I ran 5 gallons of gas through the wing tanks and out the gascolator to make sure everything was clean and dry. Then I pulled it out and fired up the C-85 to check that the gauges still worked and the new tip lights and strobes fired properly.

After a bit of run and some taxiing, I tied the tail and did a two-minute full power static run to make sure that on take off it would run long enough to get me a bit of altitude. Finally I went down to the end of the runway and did a high-speed taxi back to get the tail up and see that the airspeed indicator was working. I did replace all the static and pitot tubing when I rebuilt the wing so it seemed reasonable to check. The airspeed seemed to act just like before, and at my old stall speed the wheels started to chirp just a little, so I declared success and took I back to the hanger.

On Thursday we finalized the 337s with the IA and on Friday we rolled it into the IA's hanger for a through annual. He has been closely watching my rebuild, but he also does an excellent job of going over everything again just as he should. I have been blessed with really good support from my A&P and IA on this project.

With fingers crossed and the spring winds permitting, I should have it back in the air next week!
