  • Anyone Travelling South from Illinois to Georgia?

There is a gentleman, a forum member, who would like to obtain a rudder I have for his L-2. However, shipping cost is somewhat prohibitive. We were hoping someone travelling down I-55, (I'm in Springfield), and then ultimately to the St. Marys, Georgia area could help.

I'm a firm believer in you never know unless you ask, so here goes. Thanks in advance!
    Cheers,
    Marty

Marty, just wondering if you checked with Greyhound. I know with model airplanes that people will ship greyhound because they will take the big boxes for less than the standard shippers. Tom

I forgot that you can't use that word that starts with h and ends with d without getting that picture. Must be Bob's easter egg for the forum. I was suggesting the bus line that sounds like a dog.

WTH was that all about? Glad it happened to you, Tom, because that was just strange. I will keep the off-white dog in-mind.

I had this happen once before when talking about shipping control surfaces. I just deleted the post and typed in Greyh*und instead. It is kind of funny though.

I was just talking to the manager of an art gallery and they ship boxes this size all over the USA via fedex and I think that the price wasn't all that much ($30-$40) The size of a box to fit a rudder and a large print/painting would be very similar. He was telling me about a product they use that fills the box to protect the contents but I couldn't grasp what he was describing. If I had seen this post first, I would have pressed for details. But anyway, if there is a gallery in the area that ships a lot, may be worth a visit to get some info.

The problem lies in the shape and the rudder horns. You have to make a rectangular box for them to ship it and the rudder horns make it thick. I have priced shipping and it is very expensive. Thanks for the tips, though.
