If you want a device to measure from 32F to 122F with incredible accuracy here is what I found:
I originally bought one at the local WalMart. Not there any longer. So after getting in a discussion with the local TV station Meteorologist I ordered a couple of precision laboratory certified thermometers in order to check out the digital unit.
Keep in mind that this is an American company, Chinese manufactured, $10.75 unit.
I worked several years in a three different calibration labs where precise temperature measurements were often involved so I made up a Ice bath to check out all the devices. The thermometers were right on at 0 degrees C./32 F, and a surprise to me, the digital indicated exactly 0.0 C. I was impressed.
When I found the same unit online (some very slight changes), I ordered a couple of them with my order for some other stuff.
So last night I put out one of the new ones on the table with original digital unit and after a while they are tracking within 0.3 degrees C., which is pretty impressive. The precision thermometer was very close to that reading.
This morning I checked after they have stabilized in a quiet area overnight and they both indicate 23.6 degrees C. Holy Crap. The precision certified thermometer is saying the same as close as I can interpolate it.
The unit has several features that I haven't used except to check: high/low record, inside outside/ temp., F/C choice switch and a backlight.
I don't use the backlight and the AAA battery is still going after--Months?? I am truly impressed by this device.
No, I am not on the company payroll. Chuckle
