  • Engine Mount Dent

I have a A65 engine mount with a small dent in one of the tubes. Is it still serviceable? Thanks.

I'm not a A&P/AI, but just going off instinct it makes my butt pucker a little.

If that was mine, I'd send it to Aero Fabricators and they will replace the tube, I have nothing to do with that company other than be a customer, I just rebuild old airplanes, and I have sent them motor mounts and they come back like new, gary

            Re: Engine Mount Dent

It looks like the damage area is just within limits for a "Welded Patch Repair" per AC 43.13-1B.

If the rest of the Mount is ok then it is not a bad job.

You could remove that dent with a dent puller, but i do hot know about the legality. Marv

That would not be a wise decision as it could degrade the integrity of the tube, we are not concerned about cosmetics, a tube splice would be the proper way.Just saying do not wish to say anything wrong about others, ideas

                  Re: Engine Mount Dent

Thanks for all the replies. I just wanted some input on if anything could be done with it. As you all have informed me that it can be usable with the correct repair. I'm in the process of selling my project. I hate to do it but other life events have dictated that I do so.
I would like to thank you all for all your help. I would not of bought the Taylorcraft if not for this forum and all the support from the great people on it! I was able to buy the project and clean it up and do some repairs and learn so much. The best thing of all was the Alliance fly in of 2011. My son took a ride in his first Taylorcraft, thanks to Ken Matthews! Who knows maybe in a few years I will be in a better position to try it again.

You can weld on a diamond shaped patch, IAW 43.13. Dents are allowable up to 10% of the wall thickness. Tim
