    Re: Borescope? Software on Linux

I bought one of these little cameras too, and it arrived today; thanks for the recommendation.

Like others found, it works great and is worth every penny of $16.59. Software easy to load, etc etc.

I know you have to have a laptop or similar to see what it is seeing...I wonder if it could be plugged in to a bluetooth-transmitting device*, for the images to be received by smartphone/iMoan or similar?

    * Is there such a device that has a USB on one end and a bluetooth on the other? I'm a numpty on modern telephonic gadgets.

          Re: Borescope? Software on Linux

I just had a new thought on this. I found out that the software only works on Windows, but I did not try to find out what the basic format of the actual video information is. Knowing that, one might be able to find software that would allow use with other OSes such as Android.

I'll have to check on what the video format is and what it can be used with; if I can find that information.

An iMoan is the same as an iDevice, iPad, iPhone, iDiot. Apparently an Apple system. A clever invention by someone who can't start a sentence with a capital letter.

A numpty is someone like me who need their Grandkids to set the video player.

            Betamax, anyone?

The thing seems to follow the USB Video Standard known as "USB Video Class" or UVC.
              See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_video_device_class
The Linux driver that I am using is the out-of-the-box driver for UVC devices and it seems to work fully.
So on windows, any software that drives a webcam should drive this thing.

Just like anyone's USB thumbdrive or backup disk works because they all follow the "USB Storage class" standard.

P.S. I'm finding all sorts of uses for mine. I note that the original eBay item just jumped their price to $99 but a search shows a dozen other similar items at low prices.
