Well this isn't how i expected spending my memorial day weekend

I debated posting the impending purchase of my first airplane till the deal was done, I was afraid if I posted early, I'd jinx myself and something would happen.

Well.....this is getting sadder and sadder.

The Deal to purchase previously mentioned plane is currently in limbo.

There is missing/never obtained paperwork that brings into question the legality of the particular airplane.

Hoping, praying that some resolution can happen in short order.

Happy Memorial Day to all of our Veterans. Let's not forget what the "HOLIDAY" is really for.

        Sean:

Hope all works out for you.
Nevertheless, remember the good times in High School.... the girl you first kissed was not the one you took to the prom... in other words, you may pass on this one and find a better one elseware. I see a few nice Taylorcraft on Barnstormers that may be the way to go, as an option in case this one falls through.

Let me know if you come to VA.

        Good luck

        Ralph

If you didn't get the FAA CD perhaps the missing paperwork could be found on the CD. Hope it all works well for you.

Nope - i got the CD, the documentation either in the form of a 337 or STC does not exist. Confirmed with the seller that the modification was never documented - he's devastated and working very hard to rectify the problem, but nothing is happening quickly.

Hoping he'll be able to get the problem solved and I can still get the airplane - I'm very much attached to it, but am willing to walk away if it's not 100%.....but I'm sure I wont have to walk - I have faith everything will work out.

How many of the guys on here have been involved in Law Enforcement in their careers? (on the ARRESTING end!)
              Hank,

Can claim 32 years in the UK Police retiring as a Detective Chief Inspector. I guess the aircraft could make the trip but the Pilot wouldn't be up to it!!

Sorry to hear the bad news I would be gutted having got that far! Lets hope it gets back on track and the cops Taylorcraft reunion takes place! As they say in the UK "The show is never over until the fat lady sings!"

                Sean,
Did you see that Ragwing has a 65 Cont available? What would you think of changing back to a 65 and then starting the paperwork over to put the 85 on legally this time? It would give you time to get the paper straight and put a light weight (short) starter and generator on when you put the 85 back in. Maybe even Major the engine too (pretty easy when done yourself if the engine isn't low time already...I didn't look at the engine logs). That along with the post elsewhere about the 10% HP increase being "Advisory" not "Regulatory" could get the plane legal again.

When I was looking for some paperwork to upgrade I was purchasing CD's on similar aircraft HP. I found several where a current IA put in the paperwork for the change. Not sure if I still have all the cd's

If the paper work is not perfect.....I would walk away from it. Emotion verses intellect never works when buying things. I bought a Cessna 195 in the 80's that was beautiful to look at. Had to have it! It tuned into a nightmare! Bad PAPERWORK. It's a buyers market now! Buy exactly what you want, in GOOD condition, with a fresh annual or walk away. I did not do this and it proved very costly. Talking yourself into "modifications, etc." or things you'll correct "later" is road to big expense, no flying, and lots of anguish . Hope it works, if not, walk. BEST! JC
