  • Bulk order of Bungees, put your order in here (was: Bungee Question)

    Hi All,
I have noted that some folks recommend a 9010HD and 1110 bungee for the BC-12D (one each per side). Only problem is that I can't seem to find a supplier for the 1110. ACS stocks the 9010HD. Anyone know of a supplier or is it ok to use 4 of the 9010HDs?
    Thanks,
    Hal

      Re: Bungee Question

When are we going to get together and do our bungees as a group so we can get BRAND NEW MANUFACTURE bungees instead of ones that have been on the shelf for years? We can get a substantial discount if 8 or 10 people buy at once and they will be made from fresh stock at the time of order. A SUBSTANTIAL part of the cost is set up to make them. If we buy as a group, it costs less and the quality is better. If we can tell them we will buy "X" number of sets every 5 years he can plan his production.
It might well be worth changing them out a year or so early for the savings. ESPECIALLY if you count the chance of a failure from going "just one more year". How often SHOULD we be changing them? Anyone know? I know I will be doing new ones soon if anyone else wants to do a group buy. Certainly BEFORE I start flying the 41 again! I NEVER want to see my baby on her belly like that. Talk about a terrible feeling.

The bungees on mine where replaced in 06 so I think I'm due. Count me in if you can get enough people together. I don't find them that expensive, but I sure do like the idea of brand new vs. sitting on a shelf for who knows how long.

The chart below will help you get the "freshest" bungees available. For 2013 you would want blue. First quarter would be blue/red. Second quarter would be blue/blue, etc. If you find some from last year 3rd quarter would be red/green, 4th quarter red/yellow.

Color Code: Double Marker Single marker

            1995, 2000, 2005 - Black 1st QTR - RED
            1996, 2001, 2006 - Green 2nd QTR - Blue
            1997, 2002, 2007 - Red 3rd QTR - Green
            1998, 2003, 2008 - Blue 4th QTR - Yellow
            1999, 2004, 2009 - Yellow

Growing the list! Chuck knows the guy who runs the place that makes them. He sells to all the suppliers like Aircraft Spruce so they will be brand new when we get them

Have y'all decided what size bungee you collectively plan to have made?

My rubbers seem to work fine even though I have really stretched them a few times. However they are probably over 15 years old and have never been cleaned. Why don't you put me down for a new set?

Count me in. I have a new project so I need both types.
                        Thanks,

                          Re: Bungee Question

I "think", (man can THAT be dangerous) there are only two different part numbers that are used on all of the Taylorcraft side-by-sides. Once I have a list we can figure out how many of each we need. Probably a good discussion in there since I have heard arguments for and against all stiff ones, all soft ones and combinations. My plane flew fine with what is on it, but I don't know what is there.

Six people are on the list so far

                            Re: Bungee Question

Mine has the 9010s on it, I don't know if they are the HDs or not. With my little experience with the aircraft, I'd say they're fine, but I'll defer to the tribe for recommendations on what to run. I spend quite a bit of time on rough grass strips. Right now the hard little hockey puck I have for a tail wheel is transferring the "rough" into the airframe more than the bungees.

                              Hank,

If I remember correctly Forrest always recommended the real stiff ones. Stiff enough that you could rock a tire off of the ground manually while grabbing the strut. It is somewhere here on the forum.
                              Cheers,
