  • Tapered axle sleeve

My original plan was to use Shinn brakes. I've changed my mind about that. I have a pair of Scott master cylinders, Cleveland wheels, brakes and tires.
I did some research on our TC blog and found that Grove makes all the hardware for the conversion. OK, I called Grove to buy the axle sleeves and found that unless I buy the entire kit, Cylinders, brakes, wheels and taperd shaft sleeves they are not intrested in selling just the tapered axle sleeves. "Thanks for calling Grove and goodbye".
Now I going to need a source for a set of axle sleeves for my 1941 BC12. If I could find a source to buy a set, that would be nice. I could also make a set if someone has a set of plans.

    Thanks,
    Norm G

Designing the sleeves wouldn't be hard, but before you cut any metal be sure to get approval for the modification. It would be a shame to pay for all the machine work (not much work, but sure isn't cheap to have a machinist stand by a machine to make it!)
The Feds may also balk at your making a part that is available already. DON'T just copy the available part, design your own and show why it is better than what is available and why you don't want to use theirs (NOT just that they want too much for it or want to sell you the whole kit, why do you want to use the brakes you have and not theirs).

Hint, the answer is NOT that you already have them! Tell them why your concept is better.

Or, sell your brake parts and buy the kit.

          Re: Tapered axle sleeve

I machined some sleeves for cleveland wheels and bakes. The approval process was quite simple because the brakes were TSO'd parts. I used pre heat treat 4140.
1940 BC-65 that needs minor work...

After some great advice by private message and further investigation I found that F.Atlee Dodge in Anchorage AK has just what I am looking for. I talked to Galen Shelley at Dodge and they will machine up a a axle adapter kit and have it off to me within a week.

            Thanks to all,
