Okay, spent all day editing photos! I will write a story about this event on my blog soon, but for now here are some photos.

The complete set can be viewed by clicking here. They're in order and include photos along the way there and home. I took a shot down through the clouds in Salado, looking at the Skydive Temple airport. Little did I know I was getting a photo of Terry Bowden's plane. He had mag trouble on the way and had to stop there. You can see his plane on the North end of the runway.

Is that an Aeronca in the background? Oh yeah, that was me!

    Say cheese Terry!

Thank you. Any time! I enjoy taking them. You were there, right? I met so many people I forget! If that's your blue plane, send me an email address and I can shoot you full size photos if you want them. What you see online is 1/4 size.

        Jack,

I want to also thank you for this post and the photos on flickr. I was really looking forward to being there. Family issues got in the way. Saturday morning our group was in the taqueria and a friend ask when we were leaving. Would have been a great two plane flight. He is the guy in the red & white C-140. Great pictures of his plane. I'll tell him about them. Again, thanks. Now I'm really looking forward to another gathering of Tx Tcrafts.

You're welcome, wish you could have made it. Your friend didn't stay long. He had a very pretty plane, but I think he was there showing it to a guy interested in buying it and then he was the first plane to leave. I think Terry and the Fort Parker folks did a great job and it will continue to grow if he keeps it going.

Re: Photos - Central Texas Taylorcraft Fly-In

What a blessing it was to have such a nice turnout to the fly-in at Fort Parker. We had 8 Taylorcrafts total in attendance. Unfortunately, mine was NOT one of them. But its all good... more on that in a later post. I was glad to meet several new Taylorcraft friends and re-acquaint with some old ones. The Taylorcraft faithful group really came through with a good showing. We had a great time sharing stories, comparing planes, admiring fine workmanship, and developing relationships.

I cannot take ANY credit for the success of the event. We primarily owe gratitude to Darius Farmer for a wonderfully prepared airfield and for all of his hard work parking and directing airplanes over the grounds. He did an OUTSTANDING job. Also, we really appreciate everything Sarah MacReynolds did to make sure everyone was well-fed. The food was good and the fellowship was great. We also appreciate the OLD FORT PARKER PATRIOTS for graciously including us in with some of their Cowboy happenings. Bullets were sure flying and we enjoyed getting to watch some of those expert shooters. Needless to say... these guys covered fly-in SECURITY.... Texas style. And we cannot forget to thank GOD for keeping everything safe and for providing the pretty flowers all over the state of Texas to top off a beautiful outing.

In addition to the Taylorcrafts we also enjoyed the company of some other tail-draggers and their pilots. There were three Cessna 140's, an Aeronca Chief, a Pietenpol, a Kitfox, and a Navion. The weather kept a couple of guys away who called me with their regrets having wisely turned back toward home. I think the hotels and on-site accommodations worked out well for everyone. So.. again.. WHAT A BLESSING!!!

Thanks to Jack Fleetwood for sharing his beautiful photos. Another photographer who took many photos was Doug Ratchford. He is sending me a CD so I will post his pictures as soon as I can. I really appreciate these guys as my camera phone had a full disc and I failed to get but only a couple of shots.

Several folks were talking about next year... so I would say it must be!

Re: Photos - Central Texas Taylorcraft Fly-In

Friday... on my way to the fly-in with Lon Carr off my left wing... I lost my Right Magneto. I decided to land and not push my luck. So here I sit with N95598 grounded and waiting for Lon to come back for me. Even though I didn't get her there for the fly-in, I am pleased there was no damage done. Sunday... Lon took me back to Salado. I managed to takeoff and climb on the left magneto only circling the airfield. Once I reached 4500 msl... I headed north for a short uneventful flight home.

              Counting my blessings!

Hi Terry. A good decision to play it safe. It is always a good decision to play it safe. Most accidents are the "snowball effect"; One mistake then another and another...

I did mag checks on my magnetos the other day. I did full power climbing tests and the left mag check produced a stumble, right mag checked ok as did both. Ground checks were ok. As a result of my test mags were pulled and overhauled. Coils showed several visible cracks, especially the left. one impulse coupling was old style with rivits and was stiff and draggy. Any how $1450.00 later and I have basically new Bendix mags.

Great pictures from the fly-in. I look forward to attending one day. Taylorcrafts are a classy little bird. Looks like the fly-in had a "tribe" of Taylorcrafters and a "flamboyance" of Taylorcrafts. I just can not leave it alone

By the way, classy looking airplane you have there.

                  Terry,
That picture of your feet in front of the plane is a CLASSIC! There is just nothing like admiring your baby while sitting under a tree on a nice day. The hairy legs and white socks made me feel like it was me. If the T was blue and Ivory instead of black and yellow I would think it was of me when the 45 is done. I love that color layout.

                      Hank,
I have to say... That photo was one of those that was totally spontaneous but meant to be. I had just had a unpleasant discussion with the private airstrip owner (a sky-dive operation owner who cares nothing about anything but his bottom line) about my semi-emergency landing and making ruts in his muddy runway. On top of that my anxiety level was somewhat heightened due to the experience of losing a mag over an expanse of trees, rocks, and hills. Then after the low-level exercise of tying my plane down in semi-rocky soil... I needed a break. I decided to lie down in the shade of this cedar tree while waiting for my wing-man to return and have a heart-to-heart with my creator. I was thinking in terms of asking Him whether or not all this is worth it. Then I looked up and this was the image I saw. More than classic to me.... rather a huge sigh of relief and answer to the question. I will get a lot of encouragement in the future every time I see this photo.
