My flight (to Chicago) is booked & paid for, as is the car rental. Anyone flying in this year?

As in previous years, we will be having a Taylorcraft table at the annual VAA "picnic" on the Wednesday night at the EAA Nature Centre, transport from the Red Barn provided.

    Anyone coming?

    Rob.

p.s. The Oshkosh 2010 NOTAM is out:

Official website of the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh fly-in convention in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, attracting more than 500,000 people and 10,000 airplanes each July.

      Rob,

The question is, are you flying in this year??? We'll be at the picnic for sure again.

I'l be there. We are planning on going up on July 22 to help Jeanie get everything ready at the red barn. Probably be there everyday helping out. I always have access to a vehicle on and off the field. If anyone needs transport or something from town feel free to ask. George

Not this year, Mike...I am taking some newbies for their first Oshkosh Experience.

Well, not unless Old Blue has sprung four extra seats?

            Re: Oshkosh 2010

I'll be camped by my plane all week from July 24 to August 1, but in a new location this year. They're parking all the auction planes by the Weeks Hangar, on the north side of runway 9/27, opposite the North 40 Aircraft Camping. Have to take the North 40 Bus from the warbirds area around the end of the runway over to the north side. (On the map of the AirVenture grounds, the Weeks Hangar is on the far left edge.)

I'll look forward to seeing you all at the VAA picnic 17:30 Wednesday night July 28. Regret I'll miss the Taylorcraft forum at 13:00 Thursday July 29 -- I have to keep "office hours" at the plane to meet potential buyers from 13:00-15:00 Thursday and 11:00-15:00 Friday.

The auction starts at 09:30 Saturday July 31. My plane is item #3. Come bid up the price! (Or buy my plane!) http://www.airventure.org/auction/ There will also be a live webcast of the auction, if you want to bid from home.

If the buyer wants to take possession then and there, I've made arrangements for a bittersweet flight home August 1 in a friend's Cessna 182. When not trying to sell my plane, I'll be looking at the new LSAs -- I predict I'll be flying to AirVenture 2011 with a flight training client in something composite, Rotax-powered, and new-smelling.

I'll pack the Earl Grey and biscuits to properly entertain Ambassador Lees under my wing, but you can have some of his Lorna Doones if you stop by too.

            See you at Oshkosh!

Now I KNOW I'm reading this wrong...but if I turn up with the asking price, your pal is going to fly me home in his 182? Before 2nd August?

Joking aside, come pay us a visit at the campsite, Joel...I'll send you our new location.

What was the result of the auction? Did it sell?

Alas no, neither mine nor Mark Long's 1940 BC-65 sold in the auction. Only 5 planes out of the 50 in the auction sold.

See the thread "Did the $63000 Tcraft sell?" over on "Everyday Taylorcraft Discussion" for the sad details...

Seemed like we had a record number of Taylorcraft pilots at the Vintage Aircraft Association picnic at Oshkosh this year. So many I regret I didn't get a chance to talk with everyone, since I got over to the Nature Center on the last tram.

Can anyone identify all the Taylorcraft pilots in the first photo?

And the hot pilot next to George is Helen Brennan of Ohio, whose day job is parts procurement for the Goodyear blimps, and whose BC12-D is featured in this Dave Brown cartoon:

The photo on the right is David Whitaker of Ohio (1941 BF12-65), whose father worked at Taylorcraft.

And across from George, those that you can't really see are (back to front):

Mike and Marta Jones, Elmer Marting, and Elmer's beautiful granddaughter Erin.

Hey, where was Ambassador Lees when this was taken? Is that him in the beer line in the background??
