Wow ! Early planning! My hat's off to you for starting a thread.

I expect to be there again (by SLF and road). I hope the exchange rate improves for me.

If Possible! It is a steady wish of any aviator of supstance.
But as we all know: We fly by the grace of God, wife, and pocketbook.

        Re: Oshkosh 2009

I'm making tentative plans to fly my TCraft there. It will be my first time since starting to fly in 1956, so I'd like advice from the old timers. I'm thinking of camping out. So any information on how to register, when to arrive, where to park, stops en route, what to take, etc. would be great.

          Hi Rob,
It will be good to see you again. I'm thinking that taking camping gear will fill my right seat, otherwise would invite you to fly to BWI and fly with me.
Every coin has two sides -- Dotty and I are hoping the exchange rate stays where it is so we can afford to visit the UK again this year.

I've booked the transatlantic flights, despite the HUGE reduction in Pound/dollar exchange rates <glum>.

            See you there, mes amis.

            Rob

            p.s.

You Mercans should be travelling to Europe this year; the exchange rate favours you coming this way.

                  Rob,

I'm sending two Colonists over......my daughter is going with her Grandmother in June and my wife joins them in July. (Mother-In-Law is still a Brit......which is fine by me!).

Even with the exchange rate, greenbacks are a bit in short supply at my household!!!!

                    Re: Oshkosh 2009

                    Dan,

I've been flying my T-craft into OSH since '05. I usually arrive the weekend prior to the show. I still have to do the arrival...no big deal...but don't expect the controllers to know you are a Taylorcraft. The past few years it has been getting worse...They have referred to me as "High wing taildragger" and most recently, "Red highwing". Just make sure you are aggressive on rocking your wings. Anyways...park in Vintage camping. Have a big VAC sign in your window. I usually get a decent parking spot when I arrive the weekend prior. If you do show up in the middle of the week when they say that the airport is full, don't sweat it. You are a showplane, you can still come in, land and set up a tent. Once you land, there are many marshallers. Be cautious though, most don't realize that you have limited visibility off your nose and usually stand to the right of your taxi path. Also, if you want to talk with the marshallers, just open your window and wave them over. They are most helpful. Once you get to VAC, they will show you where to park and tell you the ins and outs on how to register. Don't worry, they will get your money! Fueling back up is no issue either, there is a big "FUEL" sign as you walk up to the flight line, just talk to them about getting gas or wave down a fuel truck as they go up and down the rows.

As far as flying in...please DO NOT fly over Lake Michigan. There are lots of airplanes at the bottom of that big lake. Being that I live in Michigan, I have the choice of flying through the Upper Penninsula or around Chicago. Either route is absolutly georgous. If you go up the west shore of the Lake and on the east side of Chicago, I skirt the class B airspace and stay around 500' (or lower) as I scoot past downtown Chicago. There is a fair amount of VFR traffic in that area, but its not a bee's nest. As far as the UP of Michigan goes, absolutly georgous flight but not too many airports to choose from. Plan your fuel stops accordingly.

Anyways, I hope I have answered some of your questions, and if you have anymore that I haven't answered, just pop me an IM and I would be more than happy to ablige!

                    Safe travels!

I only have to come from northern Wisconsin. I will be camping in the Vintage area and coming down on Friday before the start. Yes they do refer to me as a cream high wing and not a Tcraft. Look me up N43955
