I promise not to put you guys to work. Unless of course you WANT to! ;-)
The fridge is stocked with drinks and I plan to clean up the grill this weekend. I am in hangar D-3. The airport manager says we should be able to park together too.

Grill cleaned up nice, gas bottle is full and there is a George Foreman grill for a back up. I will be hitting Costco this week for rolls, dogs and brats. The temps are going to be in the high 60s and low 70s during the day! Clear and sunny Saturday with broken Friday and Sunday. Anyone wanting to camp, you couldn't GET better weather in VA. The Mayflys and mosquitoes aren't even out yet! Saw a big 4 (radial) engine Douglas airliner in the show area last Sunday. Looks good for the VA Military Aviation Museum to bring out a bunch of war birds too. Check out their web page at http://www.militaryaviationmuseum.org/ Their maintenance hangar is on the field at SFQ.

Looks like Chuck and Shannon will be driving. The flying weather looks good to get here, but a pretty skanky front is going to hit TN before they could get back. If you are coming up or down the eastern seaboard it looks like you could stay in between the waves of bad weather we have been getting. If you're coming from further west than West Virginia you probably will get here OK, but the latest wave from the west could have you stuck somewhere in western VA a day or so trying to get back.

I will be mounting the Mags this week (fingers crossed) and should have the engine on, if not running yet, so I can park with the Tribe! Have fun and come pick my plane to death so I can fix everything before the IA gets here to inspect it! You get bragging rights for everything you find that I missed!

With all the weather changes recently you could end up with a nasty migraine this Saturday. ;-)

What a shame to spend the whole day sitting in the Doc-in-the-box with a crashing headache.

              Hank

If you pull that one remember to use LOTS of sunscreen. Nothing blows it as bad as a sunburned face on Monday!

Re: 2013 Virginia Fly-In. Soffolk VA

For those who didn't make it, it was a rough time with rotten weather on Saturday and the sad loss of two aviation brothers. The winds were really strong for a T and in the afternoon a couple of guys crashed an a homebuilt just a short distance from the airport. We lost two guys from MD and so far there is very little information except that they had made multiple attempts to land and were evidently going around for another try. Sunday was a real bust after that and the whole fly-in pretty much shut down early. Hard to stray in the spirit after something like that.

Chuck and Shannon did make it down from TN (they drove, the smart money was NOT on the weather guessers!) They win the bragging rights for finding the wrong nuts on the Shinn brake adjusters and a loose ball fitting on one aileron. That was some DETAILED hunting!

Since the weather was so cold and windy we got the mags on my engine and got it hung on the firewall Saturday then ate burgers and dogs (you guys missed the good food, NOTHING tastes as good as a grill at an airport). After lunch we went over to the Fighter Factory maintenance hangar and got a hands on tour including a flying ME-262, a Taufen (BF-109 civil predecessor), an A-26 in restoration, a WW-II Russian MiG and the wreckage of a FW-190. Those and the general little treasures all over the main hangar used a full afternoon (it was while we were there we heard about the crash).

On Sunday we went to the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach for a day with every WW-I and WW-II bird you could imagine. Three days of playing with airplanes and eating like field hands means I need to REALLY get some exercise and cut back on the chow for a while! Don't want the first flight to be over gross.
