  • For Sale or Trade...Spezio TuHoler

I know it's not a taylorcraft but it does have L2 landing gear on it,lol. It has an 0290-D2(135hp) with 700smoh,starter & battery but charging system has been removed. I recovered between 1992 & 2009, the wings were completly rebuilt from scratch during this time. Excellent ceconite 102 fabric with randolph dope finish. I was told the lighter paint on part of the fuslage was an attempt to match a Navy paint sheme. Personally I think it would look better one color but I'll let you be the judge of that. The fabric & dope are in great shape but when they recovered it they did not strip & repaint the sheet metal parts such as the cowling, boot cow, fairings,etc... they don't look bad, but should be repainted if you want it to be real nice. Performance numbers are...off in under 200', climb 1500-1800fpm, cruise 125mph, runs & flies great. It also has folding wings with all the trailering/towing supports, brackets, & tow bar.
I took this bird in trade thinking I would like to keep it but after flying it only one short flight I realized that I'l simply too tall for it. If your 6' tall or less then you will have no problem flying it but if your much taller then 6' then you really need to try it on before you go any further. I'm asking $17,500 but open to any and all cash offers or will consider some trades..Feel free to drop in, take a look, try it on, take for a spin, and make an offer. Tire kickers & joy riders are always welcome. Thanks, Kev (606)359-2557

Hi, Kevin. Is it LSA compliant?

The plans say yes but the W&B on the airplane says it has a gross of 1400. So I guess legally, no.

It also has too much hp to be LSA.

There is no HP requirement for an aircraft to meet the requirements of light sport aircraft.

That's not entirely true either. LSA can not be high perfomance so to be in complience with LSA rules it has to be under 200hp.

Isn't the way to get around that is to show Max. Continuous HP, I fly the CubCrafters CarbonCub and I am often told at S-N-F, that it can't be an LSA with 180 HP, but the ASTM people (and the factory)tell me there is no max HP, just max continuous, at the Ultralite field this year was an RV-"6.5" LSA, the owner said he got it in by showing a Max Cont. HP of 80 HP, just like the Carbon Cub, Tom

Keep in mind the definition of hi performance is 200+ rated horsepower. If I fly a pitts with an AEIO-360(200hp @ 2700rpms) and simply keep it at or below 2500rpms all the time so it never produces more then 160-180hp, do you think the FAA would consider me being in complience with the HP rule? If you are under 200 rated max horsepower then you are in complicance with the hi performance rule therefore you are also in complience with the Light Sport rule that says you can not operate hi performance or complex aircraft. There's a lot of aircraft & builder/manufactures out there that are really pushing a lot of the LSA rules to the limits, especially the speed & weight limits. If you are a homebuilder then you have a lot more flexibility simply because you can pretty much set your own gross weight, your own red line airspeed, and your own maximum level cruising speed on any aircraft you build from scratch.

Kevin, you have to be over 200 HP for high performance, so the 200HP Pitts is not high performance. If it was 201HP then it would be high performance. No where in the regs does it say a sport pilot can not fly a high performance airplane or that an airplane tha meets the rule of a light sport airplane can not have more than 200HP. The problem is having a 200HP airplane that will meet all the other requirements to make it LSA eligible. For an SLSA the airplane has to have an empty weight that allows the to carry a person for each seat (I think it is 185 pounds) plus 1 pound of fuel for each max continuous power. Thats why the Carbon Cub has the reduced max continuous power. That is also why American Champion sells their new Champ as a part 23 certified airplane, because it can't meet the ASTM standards.
