  • Taylorcraft Metal Parts by David Wenglarz

    Hi all,

I met David briefly at Oshkosh prior to him leaving the show. I got to physically see his parts and they are absolutely amazing, very nicely done. I plan on ordering a new instrument panel from him with glove box doors and all the cutouts. He is currently working on obtaining glove box door hinges which will be available soon. Here is a list of items and prices:

    Instrument Panel, no holes: $350.00

Instrument Panel, with holes but no glove box openings: $450.00

Instrument Panel, with holes and glove box openings, (no glove box doors): $550.00

    Glove Box Doors: $20.00 each

    Stainless Steel Firewall: $525.00

Bungee Covers: $100.00 (Note- The bungee covers were copied from an original pair and the left and right did not match. Nothing was cut on the covers so the owner could cut-to-fit.

Landing Gear to Fuselage Fairings: $80.00/set

David will be fabricating the lower engine cowling, boot cowl and air scoops. When I spoke to him he plans on fabricating even more Taylorcraft parts as time allows.

$350 for an instrument panel blank sounds like a LOT of money. I have made 3 panels and I can tell you from experience that I WOULD NOT make another one for that. It IS expensive, but if you think that is too high, just try and make one.

I need two pair (4 total) of the strut to fuselage fairing. Mine are pretty well gone. I need to get in touch with David soon.

I would like to Thank Marty for posting my pictures. I would also like to thank the rest of you for viewing and for your comments. I bought a bc12-d project a few years ago and I needed parts. As most of you know it is hard to find parts so I started making my own and that is how this all got started. I had calls from other T-craft owners that needed parts as well. Mr. Jarrett commented that he had made three panels. I made three also until I finally made one to suit me. I have spent many hours in the shop developing patterns, forms, bucks, tooling and money to get the parts correct. I take a lot of pride in the parts I make and would be happy to send a part to anyone to inspect and put their stamp of approval on before they buy. I now have glove box door springs available. I sent the only sample I had to a spring mfg. and they duplicated it exactly like the sample. To keep the cost down I ordered 100. They are $3.00 each.

          Thanks Again,

          David Wenglarz

Just as an aside guys, remember there are two sizes of glove box door! Make sure you get the correct ones! Looks really silly to have a GREAT looking panel with doors that don't fit.

Hey guys, I can attest to the absolute quality of these items. They are fantastic. I also failed to put the price of the landing gear to fuselage fairings on my original post. That has been corrected.

I'm not sure how often David will check back here for comments as he does make other parts for other aircraft, too. Just give him a ring on the number provided.

What a surprise this afternoon to find a very nicely made wooden shipping crate on my front porch. This panel looks fantastic and the glove box doors with new hinges is the finishing touch. Look at what I found inside the box: (Sorry for the yellow tone of the pictures, it's the lights over the counter).

Thanks, Larry. My lovely wife told me she would buy this for me for Christmas. Not only that but she is pretty, mows the lawn, cooks, bakes, rides Harleys, (even as her own), and puts up with my flying (she gets airsick though-thanks to Scopalamine patches she gets by). Gotta love her!

And, yes, she has a sister but I wouldn't saddle her onto anyone.
                      Cheers,

WOW. I purchased the last BC12D pre drilled panel from Forrest a number of years ago and like an idiot sold it ! The only thing I can say is yours looks better than the one I sold so now not only do I feel better Buuuuut far happier that a bunch (I hope) of Taylorcrafts can now replace their hammered up panels....there are a bunch out there that need done ......

Re: Taylorcraft Metal Parts by David Wenglarz

                          Hey Tribe,

David just got back with me regarding the wing filler panels, ($75.00 per side-see other thread here: http://vb.taylorcraft.org/showthread...t=wing+fillers ).

David also lowered the prices on the instrument panels. The panel with all openings cut went from $600.00 to $550.00 and the panel with all holes but no glove box openings from $550.00 to $450.00.

I have no economic interest in David's business but it is craftsmen like David who are taking chances with their time and money to help the Taylorcraft community, (a rather niche market).

I have adjusted those prices in my original post so anyone just finding this thread will have the correct amounts to start out with.
                          Cheers,
                          Marty

Wow I could use the unpunched panel to put a custom installed all-glass digital panel in my 12D.

Just kidding. Really nice looking metalwork. Nah, better than nice. Fantastic. Thanks for the good pix.

I wonder if he would consider making up some wing root fairings to the original design. I would buy them as spares as mine are OK now but take a beating every annual. I hate doing that to a specialized part.

                              Darryl,

I take it you are referring to the long strips that fair the wing to fuselage joint with the adjustment screw at the back, correct? If so, I will see if he is interested in making some. Anyone else interested, let me know. I know I could use a better set.
                              Cheers,
