    Re: Piston Rings

Sal, You can contact Varga Enterprises in Chandler, AZ (www.vargaair.com). I obtained some from them. Youl could also contact Superrior Air Parts. I believe they have them too.

    Regards,

OK, now I learn that my cylinders are standard chrome cylinders and not millemium. But the shop cannot find the correct rings for the pistons. He tells me they have to be soft steel rings...UGH....Sal

            Sal,
Iron rings work good and last a long time.

Buy them from Fresno Airparts - page 3 of Trade-A Plane. They only sell iron rings no chrome.

Hello Mark....What I am understanding now is that I can use the steel rings
but they should be made from soft steel...What do you know about that...Sal

Sal, you need a new shop.
The rings come as either standard (not chromed) or chromed.
Tell the shop to blow 10 bucks on an overhaul manual and figure out the #$%^&*() part number and you will be fine.
                Best Regards,
                Mark Julicher

                  Re: Piston Rings

they never made a chrome ring for small continentals. they never made different hardness rings either (that are listed as such). just order up a std bore ring set and get her back in the air
