  • My Taylorcraft is still for sale

If you wish to fly a VERY nice BC12D, 65hp, rather than spend 30-35000 to restore one: Mine is still for sale. It won First Prize at Sentimental Journey in the late 90's. I just put a new McCauley 74-42 prop on it which gave it much better performance. Always hangared, 600 hrs (approx) on engine and airframe since complete restoration. ALWAYS hangared. VERY extensive logs by former owner AND complete logs since it was delivered new in '46 to Oscar Hostetter in York, Penna. It is a 10, inside and out and flys perfectly. It has an air-oil separator, a battery that powers ORIGINAL nav. lights, original Deluxe paint scheme, NICE redone interior with head liner and luggage compartment that is perfect. Annual is due in April 2011. If you would rather fly than talk about it, let me know. ( its ceconite with dope paint, replica wheel pants that are copied exactly like original.) Former owner rebuilt it in 1996 and owned it since 1977. Price is 26500.00 firm. (Included is an Icom that is in holder on left side of panel. It is hooked up to Antenna on top of cabin. Works quite well! Scott tailwheel also. JC

    Jim,
A lot of the guys (and gals) haven't seen your plane. You need to post some beauty shots.
Friend of mine just (finally!) got a hangar and will be looking for a plane to put in it. I'm trying to convince him to go with a Taylorcraft but he seems to like the taste of SPAM and keeps drooling on Mooneys and Bonanzas.
If you want to go fast, take an airline. Flying should be about the FLYING, not how fast you go.

      Re: still for sale

There is really nothing to do to this airplane except fly it. The last annual cost 300.00. Since then it has flown 14 hours. I forgot to mention that it uses a quart of oil in about 9-10 hours. The en gine compartment is VERY clean with a spotless stainless firewall. Bungees are 2 years old. Paint is all flawless. Glass is perfect, including sliding windows that work correctly and don't vibrate. If Douglas Bader were still with us, flying LSA, I think he would buy it! JC

This plane is also listed on Trade A Plane from the description. Pictures would help sell her . Suggest you show as well as tell. Barnstormers knows that just read their stats (and pricing mechanism) !!

Hey Robert. I like the picture of the Still... how much ?! Also the plane looks to be in good shape !!

          Re: still for sale

Usually the person who buys, dispenses with all the BS and flys into see the airplane (or drives). I have sold, over 30 years, 8 airplanes, all thru trade a plane. I shall put it back in TAP in the spring. It will sell when seen. I do not know how to put pictures on this site. Really slow when it comes to computers. I CAN give you the reaction of an air force Brig. Gen. Retired who was on the field yesterday while I landed. Quote "Geeeeezuz, thats a nice T Craft!" unquote. Remember the saying? Money talks, BS walks. JC

            Jim,

I recently flew 450 miles to look at my latest Taylorcraft after I saw the pictures. Not before. I bought it but only after careful deliberation.

Find somone who is willing to post the pictures for you. I would be more than happy to help if you can even send them to me through the mail.

Nowadays, people want to see what they might buy, not fly to Maryland only to be disappointed. Some folks do have a tendency to embellish, and as yours is on the high end of Taylocrafts for sale it would behoove you to try and post a couple of pictures. Like I advised, I would be happy to help as I am sure others here would also.

And since my neighbor is a retired Brigadier General I know the guy who commented on yours could easily have afforded it if he was looking!!!

Also for sale on the field is an Oshkosh winner J3 Cub. It is BRITE yellow poly type paint and absolutley PERFECT. Owned by 84 year old Gent who has flown here since 1954. (owned a nice Swift, 170, etc. etc) Price will be pricey as its perfect. Flawless! He is giving up flying, getting nervous about hand propping (like me) JC P.S. usually, not always, but usually, retired TAC F86 types go for at least an RV4, or maybe a Pitts . A T- Craft usually doesn't quicken their pulse much. In any event this particular Brig. Gen. drones around in a Civil Air Patrol Cessna (FREE) in his flight fatigues with leather jacket. (Know the Type?)JC

                Jim,
If I'm closer I can post the pictures for you too (Cub and your Taylorcraft, there are a few of us who like Cubs here too).
Do you have electronic pictures or only prints? If electronic,I can walk you through the process to post them or do it for you.
Someone here walked me through the process since I could screw up my computer faster than most can open it. He showed me how and I would be glad to pass it on.
You should get top dollar for a plane as nice as yours and pictures will help you do that.
                Hank

By the way, what is your next project?

                  Jim:
I'm sure you realize we're in the middle of a recession.
Many potential T-craft buyers are...well, afraid. They're afraid to drop a bundle on a, perhaps, frivolous purchase like an antique airplane, then a year from now wish they had that money for things like food and shelter.

If you can possibly wait until, say, spring of 2012, you'll have buyers standing in line to purchase your beautiful T.

Re: My Taylorcraft is still for sale

Yes! your right! times are tough. Having been born poor and having had to struggle I realize all this. Some days....like two days ago it was dead calm, 50 degrees so I rolled it out and went for a cruise for an hour, shot some SLOW landings (over the fence at 50 type stuff with slight slip,AHHHHHH....so nice.) while tying it down I thought I would not sell it after all. Lots of fun! WONDERFUL airplane to cruise around in! After all this fun I filed it up with 100 AV. It used 4.5 gallons. (one landing was Barney Olfield type, the next was really lousy.....glad no one saw it!) Will try and have someone post some pictures. Hank...do you still have some? Happy new year! JC P.S. The secret to landing the T Craft is slowing it down to 60 on final with trim way back. Otherwise, for me, it gets to be a chinese fire drill.

I had forgotten about the 5 shots you sent me. I have attached them here, but just remember, if you get that horrible hollow feeling like you just put you dog up for sale, you CAN back out!
