  • F-19 lower windshield fairing strip for sale

Part no. 1132. I bought this from the Taylorcraft factory in Brownsville last year before I realized it was an F-19 part, with the fluted upper edge, rather than a BC12-D part with the smooth upper edge. Antonio at Taylorcraft said it was the last one in inventory. New part, factory-made with factory tooling.

Cost me $93 plus shipping. Sell it to you for $93 plus shipping.

Since nobody's biting on this, let me try new bait:

I'll trade this windshield fairing strip for an original red plastic throttle knob in good uncracked condition.

You could trim off the fluted upper edge and use this on a BC12-D -- it's a challenging piece to fabricate, with those compound curves...

Did you ever find a smooth windshield fairing? I have one I will need for my 45 but it could be used to make a buck to make more copies.
If anyone has a good clean throttle knob we could also make a mold to copy those. The best thing would be one with the original unfaded color resin. If we could find a matching resin we could make nice replicas.

          Hank,

Didn't find a new smooth windshield fairing, just kept the one John Frisbie fabricated for my initial restoration in 2006 when I replaced the windshield this spring.

Aircraft Spruce sells 2-inch diameter solid black plastic throttle knobs, p/n 05-29100, only $4.50. Could paint one of those red, I suppose, but it's just not the same as solid red plastic. Photo below is my original cracked knob on the left (with blue paint residue from a previous owner) and an Aircraft Spruce knob I had engraved to match at a trophy shop, which is on my ship now.

I have two more of those black plastic knobs, laser-engraved but unpainted, that I'd trade, plus cash, for an original red plastic knob...

I have an old one like your original around here too. Split, cracked and faded. Anybody have one that has the original color intact? If we could get the color we might be able to get some more modern resin mixed to match. The new balls look pretty close in shape to the originals, especially with the nice engraving.

Contact my friend John Eggett, Court Wizard Special Effects. He can make casting molds and resin cast.

He should be able to match the original color if you give him a sample.

Looks for all the world like the ACS one and the original T-craft one were the same shape, so he could mold the engraved one and cast it in the correct color. No idea on the cost, but those of you interested in making good replica original parts should contact him.

He is also well capable of making molds and casting those magical aluminum grill and cowl trim pieces. I saw him create detailed commemorative coins from scratch, then make molds, cast, polish, etc.

Tell him Bill gave you the ocntact info. [email protected]

Of course you could just find whoever makes the ACS ones and ask them to cast a dozen or so in red... chances are they make red knobs for mixture controls already and have red resin???

Dang! They must have made them at the factory that way; faded red and cracked around the perimeter, as I have two exactly like that too! One off a "46" the other off my "41"

Sounds like all we need is a sample of the original color resin. Wouldn't by any chance be the same color as the red pretzel balls for the control wheels would it? That would be SWEET! The wheels and the throttle would actually be the same color!
                  Hank

Now we just need to do all the knobs the same way! We are going to be as fancy as the Bonanza club if we don't watch it.

Most of those T crafts are at least 63 years old. Who would know the exact color of red they were. Chances are if you had a new one in the box from 1946 it would be discolored. Chances are if some one is old enough to think he knew the correct color he would not know for sure. The airplane does not care what color the knob is. If you want a red knob have someone manufacture red knobs and everyone can buy them and they will be the original red color. If anyone would recognise the correct color or something close to it, it would be Forrest. Marv

OK, I'll try to track down Aircraft Spruce's throttle knob supplier. If that doesn't work I'll contact Bill Berle's friend. Maybe we can cut open an original knob to see unfaded red resin at its core. Bet you anything it won't match the red of the pretzel yoke hubs, though.

(Moderator Lees, if you read this, could you please cut and paste these last few posts out into a new thread "Original red throttle knobs"? Thanks!)
