Anyone have a right angle adapter that goes on the engine end of the cable?

    Thanks

Never saw it done that way on a Taylorcraft. The rt angle usually goes onto the tach in the cabin. I am off to OSH & may not see reply till next week. or e-mail me direct. I have rt angle drives here in Alliance at Barber Aircraft.

Thanks Forrest. The tach cable broke as it takes a 90 degree bend coming out of the engine before the firewall. Seemed like a right angle adapter would alleviate some cable stress. Maybe it was just old age that got the best of it and I should just put back the way it was. I already have a right angle at the tach because of tank interference.

It really should not make a sharp bend out of the tach drive just a smooth contour through the firewall... bye off to OSH in 6 hrs...

...and of course if you add a right-angle adapter at the engine, the cable will rotate the wrong way for the tachometer.

the one I have can be used left or right by removing the threaded plug and reversing it

When I replaced my tach I had to put a right angle drive on both the tach and at the engine due to the cable being so stiff. Got everything from Aircraft Spruce. Had to send the first cable back due to poor workmanship. The tach is counter clock wise.

Thanks for all the help. I ended up having to replace the right angle at the tach end and replacing the inner cable (the outer sheath on the new cable was too stiff and would not make the bend). I tried a right angle at the engine but was running into routing and interference issues that would have required a bit longer cable. Tach is working fine now so all I have to worry about now are the struts.

I had the exact same experience about two years ago. The cable I put on broke within the first hour. Ordered another cable and a 90 degree adapter and has been great since then. I attributed the break due to workmanship and Aircraft Spruce replaced the part. The bend on mine from the engine to the firewall is relatively smooth but I decided to put the adapter in anyway to prevent any further problems.
