For anyone who is interested, a friend of mine and L-2 owner ("Helicopter Gary" as he is known far and wide) has just gotten a brand new set of wing struts for his L-2 from Univair. They do not advertise L-2 struts, but they made a set to Gary's factory drawings as "owner manufactured parts". Gary is an experienced IA and he is very happy with the quality of work he got from Univair. Anyone who has an L-2, or is in contact with L-2 rebuilders, please pass this info on as appropriate.

Re: L-2 Struts Available
They must have changed their policy again. We had several sets of L-2 struts made 3-5 years ago by Univair. Then they changed their mind and would not make any more. Luckily I have not needed any since but I will be needing another set this year. Thanks for the info.

Re: L-2 Struts Available
Dick, Yes, Gary has a "civilianized" L-2 that is definitely not original color. But I think it was a model D civilian pilot trainer and not a military L-2 to begin with.
But you may not know that he did a museum class restoration on an L-2 (an L-2M I believe, with the rear teardrop canopy) for a friend of his, with correct colors, markings, and even the stenciled inscription on the boot cowl.
He is currently collecting parts for another Tandem project, which I believe started life as a TG-6. As soon as he gets his internet access all sorted out, I am hoping he will be a participant in this forum as well as any L-2 specific groups.
It was Gary who took a look at my Stromberg carburetor after it failed three times in one day (once on takeoff), and asked me the pointed question... "how far did you say you flew this airplane home when you bought it?"Taylorcraft : Making Better Aviators for 75 Years... and Counting
