  • 46 m-19 for sale

It's a sad day here in Colo.
After much thought and anguish I've come to the conclusion that I must part with my Sweet Yellow Bird aka Taylorcraft 5497K

    1946 BC12-D Modified to M-19 in 1985 TTAF 1620,
Cont 85 TTE 501 all cylinders compression mid to high 70's ,
aircraft has been hangered in cool dry colo since the mid 1950's,
has not been outside overnight more than a couple dozen times in probably 30 years.
Minor damage history all professionally repaired.
A very sweet flying good looking tcraft that regularly flies the CO mtns.

    Asking $21000.

Family and employment considerations require sale.
    I'm so bummed
Most fun toy I've ever had.

"Modified to M-19". So does this mean that the gross weight of the airplane is now the higher gross of the 19- don't recall now just what it is,but 1450 rings a bell?- and it no longer meets LSA/SP limits? If this is the case, I'm curious whether the logbook/337 states this higher gross weight specifically, or references the TCDS of the 19, or the data plate/airworthiness certificate is revised to indicate M-19. Or is the new higher gross weight is implied rather than stated? In the past, increasing the gross weight was always a good thing, but with the advent of the LSA class with it's 1320 max gross weight limits, that's no longer necesarily the case. Now increasing the gross to higher than that can actually hurt the resale of the airplane.

The gross is increased to 1500 with the Gilberti STC. The new fllight manual update that is required to be used with that STC installed, calls out the new operating parameters. I'm sure if you wanted to, you could put the old engine mount back on, and change back everything and make a log entry and 337 noting that you'd removed all of the STC requirements and you'd have the airplane back to fitting into the Sport Pilot/LSA rules.

Thanks... I haven't sat down with the rule yet to see all the ins and outs... In my mind, I'd just buy another one, instead of going through all the trouble of converting back to original anyway (it would probably be more cost effective)...unless the airplane had some special sentimental value or something like that.

The LSA rule allows a sport pilot to fly certificated aircraft if they meet the LSA specs including a 1320lb max weight. The LSA rule specifically states that a certificated aircraft CANNOT be converted to a LSA. It was built as a type certificated aircraft and must be maintained as such. This means that that an A&P mechanic rating is required to maintain the aircraft, and that an IA must sign off the annual inspection. A factory built LSA aircraft such as the new Taylor Sport is not built under a type certificate and therefore can be maintained by the new LSA mechanic rating known as the LSM or by an A&P.

Sweetie was modified to Model 19 by the Gilberti STC and now has a gross of 1500 lb. No longer sport pilot elligable. (I sure wish this had a smell checker).
