I am back to working on my long term 45 project and decided to bring the wheels home to re-work where there is A/C instead of sweating to death in a sheet metal hangar. I have run into a slight problem finding the 5/8" tall Castle Nuts that hold the sides of the wheel together and provide the mounts for the wheel covers (the small "Moon" covers are held by three 1/4" x 28 Truss Head screws that thread into the top of the castle nuts). The covers were off for decades and I will be metal bumping the dents and damage out but all that time with the "towers" of the Castle Nuts exposed they have been bent and damaged. I found an old Shinn manual that gave the part number of the nuts "6CP144" but none of my fastener catalogues or sources have any information on them.
Does anyone have any of these nuts or a source for them before I start another insane "Owner Produced Parts" exercise where I machine them out and put days of work into making six 10 cent nuts (NO, I don't expect that is what they cost any more).
Hank
