    L2 projects

    Anyone looking for L2 project? I have 2 available. Neighbor has decided to sell his L2-M project he got from me years ago. Fairly complete less engine, will need a new set of wings built for it. I might be persuaded to build them but they wont be cheap. Has paperwork for C90 installation it was flying with. I hoarded all the good parts I had for an M for this project. He has not put a price on it, but he wants it gone.

    Also have our YO-57 project for sell. If your not familiar with the YO-57, it was one of 4 acceptance planes for the army. Same as DC-65, quite a bit lighter than an L2. Also mostly complete with an extra wing. This one as well I have hoarded the best parts I had for this project as well. No engine or prop but do have A65 cores available for extra cost. Asking $7500 for this one, but will deal as I would like it gone as well.

    Does your YO-57 have metal wings? What is the SN? Where are you located? I am restoring an O-57/L2, SN 4063, N55348, Mil. SN (can't remember). Mine has aluminum wings that I am working to restore. I am looking for a few wing parts: missing one drag strut, I need drag wires and a couple of drag wire nipples. I'm always looking for advice.

      yes, it has the metal wings. I probably have the parts you need.

        Could you call me when it is convenient for you? my number is in the previous post. I need the outermost (tip) drag strut. It would be nice to have that specific one, but I could modify any drag strut to work. I'm not sure if my drag wires are airworthy or not. I am trying to decide between cleaning and reusing the original ones, making new ones from 4130 rod, or trying to find good used ones. These are, as I am sure you know, 3/16 inch diameter with 10-32 treads unique to the L2's. I'm also quite sure that I am missing a few of the nipples. I also need an exhaust system and/or a reference for someone who can make one for me. I have most of one that could be a pattern, but the pipes for one side are missing.

        I will be glad to talk to someone who has experience with the metal wings since they are so unique.

          I will give you a call. They are built very much like Piper metal spar wings. They use alot of the same hardware except with spacers. THe one exception is how the ribs attach which is unique to the metal spar wings.

            I have found my missing drag strut, so that is no longer a need. This is where I am at on the restoration of the wings. One wing has been completely disassembled. All of the parts have been cleaned by stripping old paint, bead blasting the aluminum parts, sand blasting the steel parts. The spars and most of the aluminum parts have have been etched, alodined, and epoxy primed. The steel parts have been treated and epoxy primed. About half of the wing is now reassembled. I still have a few parts to finish cleaning and then priming.

            It is still a little in the future, but I still have to learn how to tension and adjust the drag wires. Today after trying to clean up the leading edge pieces, I decided they were too badly corrodes so I will have to make new ones. The plans call for 0.0125 skins. I'm not sure that is still available. I will probably use 0.016.
