Looking for an aluminum wing rib tail piece for a 1940 BL-65

  • #2
The BL would have had built up ribs, and they are one piece. The stamped ribs were made up of three pieces. Which style do you need?

I have been meaning to check 43.13. I think Kent needs approved data for reinforcing a fractured rib - I haven’t seen the actual break, but on a Cub all it would take is a pair of channels riveted to the broken cap strip.

So offer him some approved way of doing this without tearing the wing apart. It has been flying with the fracture for decades.

A pre war rib can be repaired just like a Cub rib.

Yep. AC 43.13-1B 4-58c “acceptable methods” - figs 4-13,14, and table 4-9, but only if the Taylorcraft maintenance manual (Army TO?) does not conflict.

The famous sentence in the first paragraph: “The repair data may also be used as approved data if . . .”

            also - see Tim's post:

More from the annuals of Dr. Tim I also have a special tool for crimping the hat channel over the rib and drilling the holes. I need to post once my patent gets completed! :0

If you have doubts about the legality of the repair get a field approval using the Piper repair as substantiating data. It shouldn't be difficult.

Is it possible to add photos here? I have some photos of the damaged rib. The damage to the rib is in an area from about 4 to 7 inches from the trailing tip of the rib, top and bottom.

My rib is the built up type, one piece.
