  • Plexiglass cleaner polish recommendation/review

Have tried a couple windshield cleaning products side by side for well over a year now and wanted to share some observations. These two were top recommended by Aviation Consumer out of 6 tested. I would concur with AC’s results. I’ve used them in each month of the year (about 8 hrs/month flight time) and they work as advertised.

Both keep the windshield and transparencies clean and are a workable rain shedding coating. (Have only flown in light rain twice.) Would I buy them again, yes, I have second set just arrived.

I used only clean microfiber towels. If forced to pick only one it would be ALL KLEER. It is cheaper, travels easier and polishes a bit even though it is a bit more work. Plexi removes bugs a bit better. In 12 months both are about 2/3rds gone. Aircraft Spruce has them.

PLEXI-CLEAR ACRYLIC SHEET CLEANER - 19 OZ is aerosol product
    Pros:
    • Super easy and fast to apply
    • Fast to remove with quick wipes
    • Good rain shedding
    • Almost magical bug remover, even old bugs baked in the sun, easier than All Kleer.
    • Best for use in the hangar after the flight when quick clean-up is the goal to get home
    • Easy to use and clean up on inside of windshield around the frames

    Cons:
    • Aerosol product, over sprays on what you just did.
    • Big can and not practical to take on a trip
    • Can be tough to get it all wiped up, can leave some streaks
    • Doesn’t minimize existing micro-scratches
    • More expensive

ALL KLEER, 8 oz. liquid product
    Pros:
    • Great size to travel with
    • Low cost
    • Easy to apply, not as easy as spray
    • Good rain shedding, a little better than the Plexi
    • Very good bug remover
    • It does have a polish effect along with cleaning, minimizes micro-scratches somewhat
    • Easy to see you have it all wiped up

    Cons: (not many)
    • Have to wipe on, then let haze for 30-60 sec then buff off
    • Not as quite as good bug remover as Plexi

Mark, a friend of mine is a retired chemist and owned/flies a nice pacer for more than 40 years. He told me long ago that when you compare the chemicals in Plexi as compared to Lemon Pledge Furniture polish, the properties are almost identical but has to be the lemon product. He has used it for at least the 20 years I have known him. His plexi still looks new, bugs come off easily, good water shed and it's cheap and easy to get. He even uses it to clean the bugs off the leading edge of wings and struts quickly after a flight when they are fresh and it polishes up the paint. If it streaks, leave it alone for 5 minutes and they are gone. It sure works better than the guy I saw once rubbing a paste wax on his plexiglass with his finger tips prior to buffing it out. The only problem was he didn't pay attention to what can he grabbed out of his cabinet and come to find out it was fine rubbing compound. Let's just say the micro scratches were not an issue any longer.

Good for 5 mph, 5 horsepower, and 5 more db of exhaust sound: http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...eaner---polish And it cleans and protects whatever it's on.

I know lemon pledge has been a staple for most people around here for maybe 30 years.

Yes, Lemon Pledge smells better! I just wanted to try them both to see.

I like the All Kleer for travel so I don't have take a huge aerosol can along.

I did test the Plexi on a spot on the paint to see if was safe. It seemed to be and have used if for some monster bugs on the wing LE with no paint effects.

That Harley cleaner is good, I also like Eagle One Nano wax too for the bike.
