  • Looking for Metal Prop

I'm looking for a Metal Prop for my BC12D-85. It has a flanged hub. Prefer a either a standard or cruise prop. Also need two sealed rear struts.

Thanks Gary but the prop isn't approved for the 85hp engine. I called the guy and he wanted $2000 for the struts!

Strange ad too...what's $1,500 get you? Oh well guess just keep looking.

Edit: You might check here for a prop: http://www.j3-cub.com/forum/ or call some prop overhaul shops and see what's on their shelves. Not sure what rear struts would cost.

          Gary, or anyone,

Can this prop be refurbished, I pulled it out of a dumpster. I thought it was a good wall hanger. I believe it came off of a C-75/C-85/C-90. An acquaintance of mine recently passed, as well as his father, who were two of 'the' Ercoupe restorers. Probably came from their hangar when next of kin cleared it out. The prop is a Sensenich 76AK-2-46

Er...no. Too much gone from the tips. Good scrap value though, aluminium is up at the moment. Or for a "club prop" for an airboat.

Call these guys and ask: http://dominionpropeller.com

I went to University with the owner Gerry in the '60's (assuming he still is). He knows props but I suspect the curler tip prop is toast...burned well.

I have a Field Approval for that model of prop on my C-85.

I figured it was 'toast' but thought if it could help someone I would try. Instead I will clean it up and hang her on the wall. Thanks Rob and Gary.

                Happy New Year!!!

                  Re: Looking for Metal Prop

The caution for just buying a prop is prior use history and maintenance. No mystery that things are sometimes for sale for a reason besides being excess to the owner's needs...prior damage, no logs, TT, TSOH, AD's C/W, and so forth. If the plane it was previously installed on is known then records can sometimes be generated.

That's what happened to mine but we still had to rough estimate the TT at recent overhaul based upon aircraft TT and date of manufacture. Once overhauled or sold by a reputable shop with some sort of maintenance release and log then some of the mystery is solved.

And yes Happy New Year to all from Fairbanks, AK.
