Not at all happy about it, I was looking forward to flying it, but am going to have to sell my airplane. My hanger space for it is going away, my mechanic has moved, and I don't like the thought of it being outside. Several of you have helped me get it almost ready to be signed off and I truly appreciate it.

The only thing left is signing off the lower strut attach point AD. Initially they looked bad but after cleaning up all the sticky linseed oil off them they visually look very good.

My mechanic did the annual and everything passed. He did say that the fabric passed but should be rejuvenated in the near future.

I flew it from Portland, OR to Spokane, WA area on a ferry permit and it was a great 3 stop flight, no issues at all. I have been flying it off the firewall tank only due to the wing tank having a small pinhole near the drain. Mechanic says that a little bit of sloshing compound should fix the pinhole leak.

Here is link to add I put in our local craigslist and a link to photobucket that has pics and a short video.

If your mechanic thinks that rejuvination of the paint does the same to the fabric, it's about time you get a new mechanic (and a new IA)

Hi John, I was sure wanting to fly it over there and drop in on you someday. Things didn't work out the way I had hoped. The last year has been really rough, the worst by far is I lost my dad, and now no one to finish my airplane and losing my hanger.

So sorry to hear that Randy! You don't need to fly to drop in....just come on over! I'm usually not far away.

What Rob said about rejuvenating the fabric. First time had seen that phrase and I've heard a lot.

My covering system doesn't offer rejuvenator any more anyway so my automatic response would be to ask for clarification.

Too many owners don't do that and IMO it is potentially kind of dangerous.

I say this from experience from when my Dad owned a Champ and mechs and other "experts" would use vague terms to sound smart, especially in regard to engine maintenance. It's a common affliction unfortunately. He would never ask them to explain and that bothered me.

I'm sorry to learn this too. The thought of giving up the dream of a lifetime as yours like mine must be is almost unthinkable. But if I don't come up with a plan soon I could be next.

If it's butyrate dope, it can be rejuvinated. I'd say that is what the mechanic is talking about, but referred to is as "rejuvinating the fabric".... common term.

I am very sure that my mechanic knows what he is doing and talking about, it is my interpretation of what he says that may be suspect.
