I'm changing carburetors from the Stromberg to the Marvel on my Cont. A65 and need a mixture control lever for the Marvel that travels front and back and not side to side. Anybody have one?
I got a factory rebuilt MA-3PA model 10-4233 Marvel carb from A.E.R.O. In Stock about 7 months ago and I'm now installing it. The price was reasonable. The mixture control cable just like the throttle goes over the oil tank on the Stromberg. The cables are supported at the engine mount which is the way I would like to keep it if possible. The new carb came with a mixture lever that operates side to side (not front and back like the throttle) which means I would need to re-route the mixture cable and fab a bracket to support the cable at the carb. They make or made the lever as a friend has one on his carb, p/n 155-867 and I believe there are other levers that would work.

ps Tim I see that we have nearly sister ships as mine Taylorcraft is a 1941 model, NC29745.
I'd be curious to learn what differences have been observed by those who have switched from the Stromberg to the MA-3PA. With the ability to lean have you noticed any decrease if fuel burn in cruise? Should I be considering this carb for a freshly overhauled A65?
OK, let me stress this again, there are not many of the MA3A carbs for the A-65 out there. I used to search the national parts databases and they are about as rare as the Bendix S-20 mags (I found enough parts build 3 mags over 6 months of searching), they are very rare also. Most people can have a couple Strombergs laying around next to several pairs of SF-4 mags and never see an A-65 marvel or S-20 mag. If someone has one, they typically horde them like 22LR right now. You don't gain much in cruise, especially in MN, unless you cruise at 7-12K MSL, which I doubt with the awesome lakes and other scenery you have there. The mixture is great for shut down though. Tim
Wow, 950 to overhaul your core, 2100 for a new one. I anyone actually getting them from Volare? They were not available 3 years ago. Valare must have tooled up to make them? They own MS...now if Continental would come down in price on Bendix mags...Tim
Try www.aeroinstock.com for the best price on the carb and the hard to find mags. I got both of mine there. By the way I found a mixture control lever.
