I've seen this airplane while at the Alliance gathering a couple of years ago. Absolutely beautiful. Hate to see you sell it, Paul.
    Cheers,

Dang it you guys! Don't you have ANY IDEA how hard it is to clean drool out of a key board?

Hope you get a bidding war going for her. Give extra points for anyone who wants to take he closer to south east Virginia!

        Hello,
        Beautiful airplane!
        What are the compressions?
Is the prop a cruise or climb prop?
What kind of cruise speed does it give you?
        Empty weight?

        Thanks!

Re: Selling my Taylorcraft '46BC12D-1 "Ace"

At last annual, compression readings were: (1) 75 (2) 77 (3) 72 (4) 80. The prop is a 74" diameter 45" pitch McCauley MetalProp. Most would call that a cruise prop. Easy cruise at 95 mph; can exceed 100 mph in level flight. Take-off and climb performance is good, better than most 65 hp airplanes. Empty weight is 749 lbs., which is somewhat lighter than most, and helps in both climb and cruise. The Taylorcraft "Ace" or BC12-D1 was a simplified BC12-D, with door only on the right side, no lift handles, short stringers on the top and sides, and is generally lighter than the more deluxe models. It is still Type Certificate #696. There were approximately 200 "Ace" models built, though the serial number for this one (S/N 10074) is outside (later) than the list in Chet Peek's book. Manufacture was September 1946, original registration issued October 10, 1946 to Harold Popp, Meadville, PA, near the end of the line for post-war Taylorcrafts. The economies of the "Ace" were to simplify manufacture a little, lower the price a little and hopefully bring in a few more desperately-needed sales. As you all know, it didn't help enough, a couple months later the doors closed. I have the original Form ACA 500-A Aircraft Registration Certificate, as well as a Department of Commerce, Civil Aeronautics Administration "Certification Notice" Form ACA 805 signed by (looks like) O.M. Bell, title Vice President, Taylorcraft Aviation Corporation dated 10/10/46, and a Form ACA 309 "Operations Limitations" signed by inspector Kenneth M. Warder on 10/10/46.

Missed that there was only one door...

I'm curious why manufacturers who have one door, always put it on the co-pilot side? (Tri-Pacer, Cherokee, Bonanza, etc, etc).

            Thanks,
            Ryan

Re: Selling my Taylorcraft '46BC12D-1 "Ace"

I think it is because they thought the pilot should be in the plane before it took off, and that is the side you need to be on to prop the old girl and if you are giving rides it will be a lot easier. Imagine shutting the engine down getting out , your passenger getting out, the new passenger getting in, you trust the passenger to hold the brakes and not touch anything while you walk around the plane prop it and walk around and get in the plane if it is still there.
