  • 1948 Cessna 170

I know its not a taylorcraft but ya never know when someone might want to add another great airplane to thier collection, especially one with a little more utility and useful load.

3600TTE&A,1570ish smoh, runs & flies great, cleveland wheels & brakes, scott 3200 tailwheel, polished wheel pants(will sell without pants for less $$),

4place intercom but only has the front jacks installed, KX175B(works like new),KT76A with mode C.

This is not a show winner but is a very nice straight 170 with an uncut panel(no extra holes).Recent air tech interior in great shape.

The wings have been metalized and recently opened up and inspected for corrosion,etc...no bad corrosion issues on this airplane.

The windshield will need to be replaced in the near future due to old age but is perfectly safe and still servicable. I can replace it at no labor charge for any buyer who wants to buy a new windshield.

There is a very light bit of hail but it is very light and very hard to see. The worst is on the horizonal stab and elevators and I have an extra perfect horizonal stab that goes with it if you want it.

Airframe logs start in 1966, engine logs in 1970(appears someone simply last the early books). The last major and all important stuff is all there. All 337's etc. Good paperwork and all AD's complied and up to date. Annual is good until March 2014. I'm asking $21,000obo.

Anyone interested or if you have a friend interested please let me know and I can forward ya my phone number or email addy. Thanks, Kev

    Re: 1948 Cessna 170

A local Ex Taylorcrafter in our area has one of these and even painted it in a traditional Taylorcraft color scheme (you just CAN'T get Taylorcrafts out of your system!)
It is ONE SHARP LOOKING PLANE and when it flys over you would swear it was a Taylorcraft. NICE plane with lots of potential, (for an aluminum plane.) ;-)

    Hank

What the heck, if one of our guys buys it, we will still fly with you, if you paint her appropriately.

We are supposed to run the engine next time the IA is out. Unfortunately I have misplaced the LH Plug Harness! We could have run it last Saturday but I think it would be a waste of time on just the RH Mag. I just have way too much Taylorcraft stuff in boxes all over the place.
I may have to get with Earnie and see if we can play in his "almost a Tylorcraft" Cessna. It IS a sweet plane. Looks like a Taylorcraft, but is faster, carries more and has a full panel.
Lots of little things to do before I fly. Main one now is put the new bungees on. I am MOTIVATED to get the bungee order moving! Mine must be 15 years old. NO WAY I would fly with them.

        Hank

Cessna still doesn't feel like a "T" though. Much better than a 150, but not tube and rag. (can't slide TOO far towards the "dark side")

          Hank,
Which mags are you running? I may have a harness.

I have Eisemann LA-4s with the top one going to unshielded plugs in Erocoupe cups and the bottom to shielded plugs. I have at least 6 sets and 4 more mags somewhere, just can't find them.

Lol, I got a set of unshielded if you need them. Just out of curiousity.....Your not wiring that bird like a lycoming are you?...each mag has two running to the top and two to the bottom? I'm sure you know not to do that on a continental and should be all four from the right mag to the top and all four from the left go to the bottom. You'd be surprised how many continentals are running with the mags improperly wired.

                Re: 1948 Cessna 170

No, RH is top all the way and LH is bottom with no wires. ;-) I can't fly till I get the new bungees on and get an annual done but we had hoped to get the firewall forward checked out so any problems can be addressed while waiting for the bungees.
If I don't find the parts or a harness to borrow locally while looking I may take you up on yours. This is REALLY frustrating. There are 4 or 6 Mags with ignition leads and plugs in a box somewhere. Not like it would be a small box!

Lol, I know what you mean Hank. You should see the mess we still have in our hangers here after the tornado last year......on second thought, you probably shouldn't. We lost 1 large hanger and about 4 storage buildings full of parts in one lick! We spent days combing the hills and hollows picking up parts that were still worth salvaging and piled them where ever we could find a place under roof, what a mess!

However I do know whee my mags n harness are because they are on the engine I just pulled off my cub a few weeks ago.

Not too many years ago, if it is a 170B it would be GONE for even more money. Is it an A or a B? Horsepower? 145?Some were repowered with 180 . Nice airplane!

It's not an A or B. it's a 1948 ragwing(wings have been metalized), the first year for the 170. It's completely stock except for the metal wings, 0300A, climb prop. Runs and flies great.
