  • Landing Gear Legs Needed

Well I know it is a long shot but thought it was worth a try. I need a right gear leg for T-Rex and possibly a set of R & L if it is available. There is a crack in the lower tie strut on the right leg and it is so close to the fitting on the bottom I cant do a proper sleeve repair without replacing the lower fitting that bolts to the landing gear V. I am tempted to replace the whole streamlined tie strut but am thinking I would need some kind of fixture to hold everything in place. Any leads or info would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Brad

    Hi Brad,

I am working on a jig for these gear.

I have a left and right to fix and have one each of undamaged gear to base the jig on.

I have purchased the steel for the jig and plan to put it together within a month.

I made an Aeronca axle jig last year and made it so the axle sits similar to how it does when installed.

I think that for this jig that side ways may be easier, not sure yet.

Wag aero has a jig, and I think they will repair the gearlegs.

Yes and they do a great job. I had a RH repaired by John last summer. New streamlined strut and all.

How much work did they do and how much did they charge?

To anyone on the Forum. I have the remains of two gears that had been butchered by someone, maybe 50 years ago. They were a part of a salvage my dad acquired that long ago. I don't have a pix right now, the parts are in my hangar. If there might be an interest I'll take pictures the next time I'm out to the hangar.

I live in Cedar Rapids, Ia. I'm anticipating packaging/shipping would be a nightmare. They are free to anyone that comes and picks them up.

The gear leg had been rolled up under the fuselage resulting in the upper triangular truss being broken loose from the gear legs and the tie strut was buckled and broken. Cost to completely rebuild, sandblast, and prime with epoxy was about $500.00. Tie strut, BTW, is also the correct size. Contact John at Aero-Fabricators (division of Wag-Aero). Hope this helps. Good luck.
