  • Your opinions on a possible trade

A good E-friend of mine, (a member of two yahoo aviation groups that I own), just told me that if I wanted, he would trade me his L2-B for my BC-65. His wife has been complaining for over a year that she wants him to get a side by side ship, but he wants to still have a Taylorcraft.
You guys know I have said here more than once that the ONLY way I could be pried loose from Manu Sina would be for someone to trade me an L2-M for it.
How much do the spoilers improve the "dirt road" operations of of the L2? The two ships are in the same condition. Thoughts anyone? Brie

Not all L-2's have spoilers. Many have been disabled. Check before you count on them. Your BC65 will out-perform the L2B in takeoff and climb unless the L2 has been converted with a C85 or O200.

I have an L-2B my friend has an L-2M. The only difference I see is he can carry more speed over the fence and bleed it off with the spoilers. He can also come in higher over obstacles, trees, wires etc. and deploy the spoilers to get down. With the spoilers deployed he comes down fast. I go in and out of the same places I just have to work a little harder sometimes.

An old A&P here told me he wired many spoilers shut right after the war. Don't know why, wasn't smart enough to ask!

Was required to be tied off as a part of civilization. Also have to bolt the rear seat in the foward position

So, it is OK now to have them in operation? Inquiring minds want to know! Larry

IF you want to have an authentic L-2M , keep the spoilers. The de activation was to make the L2M back into a DCO-65 civilian version , swivel seat had to be de activated too!!! Dick Huish are you our there!! Lets do lunch before the fly-in???
