  • New guy - Cub type. Helping with an L-2 repair. Need lots of free advice!

Hard landing. Buckled the heavy tube inboard of the gear attach point. Plan is to straighten, then sleeve the bent tubes after a careful check of dimensions.

Original questions included what to expect removing all that aft birdcage glass - but I think I see three attach points, and a million screws up and over the top. Still, hints will help.

The thing really needed new cover anyway, since there was probably a hundred pounds of automotive enamel on it.

Honorary Cub. I flew it before the unfortunate crunch, and loved the spoilers. Too bad these things didn't come with Cub-like doors! More later.

No secret shortcuts to getting the glass out, lots of screws to remove.

      Bob,
I did this repair on one of my L2's, There is a bunch of fittings that are pretty weird to make and get installed. Let me take few pictures. Im in the San Francisco area and looking to go to the SD area the first week of April (spring break).

Ed - we are at MYF - I am there every day noon or so to maybe 4:30. You can get a trip around the pattern in a Cub, and if a Sunday, a free beer!

Owner just asked if there are drawings, and if a jig exists. My plan was to measure the good left side and make sure the right side matches when the bent tubes are straightened, and then weld in some sleeves over the bent areas.

          Bob,
I didn't even look for any drawings and did exactly what you said. These old birds weren't very straight from the factory and as long as you can get the important stuff in the right place what hooks it together doesn't matter too much. Still looks good for the first week of April.

Just go to the big Crownair hangar and ask for me. They will point you to my Cub hangars. Or ask the airport mgmt below the restaurant. Getting on the airport is starting to be difficult - I can sort of pave the way.
