  • L2-A fuselage blueprint

So the L2 CD's are quite difficult to get from the foundation.

does anyone have a copy available that has an image of the L2 fuselage blueprint that would show the original setup for the rear greenhouse/ observer window structure?

Also, if anyone has a copy of L2 info CD's for sale, I will throw lots of money at you.

    Thanks,
    Robert

I got Forrest to give me a print from the L2 CD for the rudder (I think it was the rudder).

They are pretty crappy prints you may not be able to read the dimensions.

Get an L2 guy that has one to check for you if the text can be read on what you are looking for.

      Dave,

There are 1808 prints on the L-2 CDs, also history, parts manuals, erection manuals, repair manuals and I could go on. The prints are only as good as the original microfiche they came from, with that said out of the 1808 prints there are very few un-readable prints.
I will take care of Robert and see he gets what he needs.
It is sad that Forrest no longer answers these requests, before I gave the CDs to the Foundation (Forrest), I charged $25.00 for the CDs, gave $20.00 to the Foundation and kept $5.00 for postage, mailers and CDs. Maybe it is time to start that service up again and give the $20.00 to our system administrator that keeps this forum running. Without the forum we would be in a world of hurt.

          Hi Ron,

Thanks for the clarification. That is good news. I must have gotten one of the few.

Is the disc copy righted? or can it be copied and dispersed? I think you have a good idea.

            Dave,

I don't even remember the year but around 2002/2003 I needed some L-2 wing drawings. A member here said he had some, after having the large blueprints copied and mailed it cost over 90 dollars for approximately 10 blueprints. A short time after that I came across 4 microfiche rolls from the Smithsonian Institution with the 1808 blueprints from their WWII archive. I used a 35 mm scanner and scanned each print one at a time and saved them on a computer. I then typed an index listing each print and hyperlinked the prints to the index for easy searching. This was extremely time consuming and took all my spare time for about three months all while on Active Duty in the Navy. I did all this for myself however upon completion and seeing the final product I wanted them available at a very reasonable price for the Taylorcraft community yet I wanted to help the Foundation at the same time. I advertised them for $25.00 with the Taylorcraft Foundation receiving $20.00 and $5.00 to cover my expenses. After several years and seeing a set for sale on E-Bay (really pissed me off as the goal was to support the Foundation not take away from sales, I guess I was a little over-protective as well) I asked Forrest if he would like to take over the selling of the CDs and he agreed.

There is no copyright on the disks, at one time I was called out because the original blueprints were from the Smithsonian and therefore were not to be sold ( I did not purchase them from the Smithsonian and had never entered into any agreement with the Smithsonian) as far as I am concerned it can be copied and dispersed however this action was discouraged because it took away from Foundation possible profits.

If Forrest is no longer interested in selling CDs and from the postings here it appears he is not, we could say "game on" make copies and give to your friends or we could do some good and send our administrator $20.00 for each copy and help support the website. At this point I don't care either way as long as they are available for any potential Taylorcraft owner in need, but I am willing to do the work if supporting the website is the goal.

As you know some of the blueprints apply to the 'B" models as well. I would love to have a large scanner and a month to scan all of the Foundation blueprints for the "B" models before they are lost or forgotten forever.

              Re: L2-A fuselage blueprint

              Hi Ron,

Wow! That was a lot of work we owe you a big thanks. THANKS!

The print I got was common to B models. However I started out asking for the drawing from the foundation because the mantra was foundations members could access the drawings and make copies IF they came to the airfield at the prescribed time period and made the copies.

Its a 12 hour drive for me so before I make the trip I wanted to know if the drawing was there, if there was copy/scan store near by and if I could take the drawing offsite.

Answers to those question were elusive and eventually the deal morphed into me getting the drawing from the CD.

So I wondered if the B model drawing actually exist? Who has seen them? Maybe they do exist however if they do it seems unlikely that we will ever access them based on my experience.

On a more positive note I wonder if 35 mm scanning technology has improved enough that re-scans of some with the new technology would produce a better result?
