I found out that these old glass gascolators were used on old Ford 8N and 9N tractors and there are still a lot of parts available. The new gasket and 1 micron screen kit sells for $1.96 and the gasket alone is 50 cents! My only problem now is finding a tractor parts house near me. I kina feel bad about mail ordering less than $3 in parts.
Any automotive repair shop should have cork gasket material. It is very difficult to work with. A hard template and a very sharp Exacto knife is a necessity. The edges of the gascolator gasket are narrow and cork is fragile.
I cut one for my gascolator and it still leaked. I sandwiched another piece of thin gasket material with the cork and all is ok. Cork seals against the glass, fiber gasket seals against the metal.
NO SEALANT.
the glass gascolators and parts can be found at tractor shops that repair the old Harry Ferguson TO-20 tractors. (and the older Ford 8n and 9n) http://davistractorparts.com/ & others
Donna Losey [email protected] may still have them. Sorry I don't have her number but it's here in the messages somewhere. Luscombe shares some parts with T-craft. The gasket you want is quite heavy. Jerry.
