  • Turnbuckle Sizes

Are all the turnbuckles in the BC12-D 1/4" x 28 threads or are there some 3/16 used in the airplane some where. I counted seven (7) turnbuckle in the aileron controls, two (2) on the rudder, two (2) on the elevator and two (2) on the brakes for a total of fifteen (15) turnbuckles used in the airplane, is this correct? Just want to check so I purchase the correct ones.
    Thanks Rich

The turnbuckles are based on the cable ends size, What size cable ends do you have? Can you measure them? Tim

      Re: Turnbuckle Sizes

I am using 1/8" stainless cable on all the controls plus on the brakes. Just judging on the strength of the cable it looks as if 1/4" turnbuckles are the way to go. According to Aircraft Spruce 7x19 1/8" SS cable is rated at 1760 lbs and the steel cable is at 2000 lbs. The 3/16" turnbuckle are only rated at 1600 lbs and the 1/4" ones are rated at 3200 lbs, so it looks like to error on the side of caution I will be going with all 1/4" turnbuckles.
      Thanks for the Reply

You might want to do a search, stainless is not perfered, it wears funny. There is almost no tension on the cables so you can use the smaller turnbuckes..... Tim
