          Re: NC22211 Progress Photos

Ladies and Gents: Posted above are some shots we took of NC22211. First time she has been mostly together since 1954. Repairs are completed, Jim and Dondi Miller supplied the Randolph dopes and Ceconite, and July will be spent covering and painting. We're a long way from flying, though. The original cowls are for a single mag Lycoming O-145-1. They will have to be modified with new wraps to the A-65 Continental. The wings were in most need of repair. A friend and Taylorcraft owner/pilot/restorer - Eldon Bowman - did a tremendous amount of the tedious straightening and splicing and tinkering necessary to return the wings to airworthiness. I made new spars all around, as the originals were knawed by mice at precisely the wrong spots for repair - the butt ends and the lift strut attach area. Cunning little mice! Eldon made a fixture for pre-bending the leading edge pieces, which made the installation a wrinkle-free breeze. He also made a wooden clamping vice-device for straightening the nose-"D's". Pop the "D" part of the rib into his fixture, tighten the clamps, and the T-Channel pulls exactly into shape!

This plane last flew in 1954. It would not pass inspection for the new permanent airworthiness certificate, so it languished through several owners before a couple of us took on its resurrection. Bert Williams found it and preserved it for a while, Evan Bender and I took it over for restoration and Eldon Bowman and I have done the work, with help from anyone unfortunate enough to have wandered into the hangar. Mike Redpath provided the parts we were missing. There are countless other of you forum folks who have assisted through your posts. Thanks to all. More photos as covering advances. Bob

Thanks for the posting. For those of use following, it's encouraging. I should be there by the beginning of winter; that's my goal. Gotta bring up the subject of bringing home the fuselage for repair to wife this morning at b'fast. - Mike
